Putting specific backgrounds on multiple users

Here's the deal. I work as IT for an university and as any other univ, we have our own domain. Now, we purchased over 80 vostro laptops for student to check out. 40 out of 80 will be able to go outside the university for a period of 72hrs. So here is my question. Since the laptops will not be connected to out domain, the policies will not work for specific backgrounds that we use here in our lab. So this is what I did. I downloaded the user profile copier, created a generic account, primed that account will all the software and background then used the user profile copier 2.0 to copy that generic profile and made sure that everyone who logged in would be able to see the background. The problem is that when I log in with my personal account, the background is black, it does not show anything. Apparently the backgrounds are not being copied correctly. Is there a more efficient and bullet proof way in doing it? Thank you\

Hello Israel,

I have not tested this in a domain environment, but you might see if this may be able to help by specifying a default background and prevent it from being changed.

At our organization, we prime a *local* Admin account to have all the settings desired, and then copy that account's ntuser.dat to the "Default User"s ntuser.dat (not "All Users"). Might need to create a temporary 2nd local admin account to copy this file, since you cant access the source or destination ntuser.dat if that user is currently logged in.

At least this was the method we used with XP on a domain, and it worked great. But they we didnt have many domain level policies being pushed down so my situation could differ from yours because of that

I tried both options, and it did not worked. I get a black background when I log in user my account.

The background image used will need to be stored and referenced to locally.

Also, double check to make sure that you do not have the Remove background images (where available) box checked in the tutorial below.
