Q6600 Stress Test

I overclocked my cpu to 3GHz along with RAM (running at 1333MHz). Did stress test for 9 and half hours and everything seems stable. Prime 95 doesn't show any errors and max temperature it reached was 48.

I also did winsat mem test but max it goes was upto 5960.97MB/s (Without OC, it scores upto 4721 MB/s)

I'm pretty sure my ram is capable of running higher. Any suggestions to make it quicker will be highly appreciated.

current timings are 8-9-9-25

what you mean by tightening timings, please elaborate?

lowering them (also I have heard this called tweaking). I would caution, too low they either won't work or larger programs won't benefit from the change.
For example, my older PC2-8500 ram used 5-5-5-15. I changed this to 4-4-4-12, had quicker response and no bad issued to speak of. Tightening them further would not give any gains to larger programs being loaded.

Yes, I have a suggestion -

IF YOU HAVE PC2-6400 (400MHz) RAM then run the multiplier at x8, BUS at 400 yields core speed of 3.2GHz - keeps clocks nice (FSB-DRAM divider = 1:1) and makes the RAM very happy.

(I have the Q6600 with PC6400 DDR2 RAM running this way - very stable with only a slight voltage bump.)

Yes, I have a suggestion -

Id would let Prime go for a bit longer, around 11hrs. If all good then you can be fairly certain your OC is fine on the CPU.

Itll now just be tweaking the RAM to run well at those clocks.


Thats seems a bit low of a score for DDR3 @ 1333.
Because my DDR2 running at 960mhz (5-5-5-12) is around 8100 mb/s.

Theres something off with the timings Im guessing.


What you may want to try is lowering the DRAM strap and timings.

Basically underclock the RAM & tighten the timings.

For example, instead of running at 1333mhz at 9-9-9-25

Try, 1066mhz at 7-7-7-20.

Sometimes, slower is better. Of course this isn't always the case with every HW configuration & OC, but its worth trying.

Well I think it is low too and the only thing I can think of is you have two different kind of RAM sticks in there even though you have the like-kind paired correctly.

2X2 GB would really be the better route IMO.
Because that way they all match and 2 DIMMS is less stress on the NB as well.
It makes it a bit easier to get more stable OCs.

Although many seem to have no issues mixing and matching RAM, it can cause issues. Especially when OCing.

Thats why I suggested just targeting a 1066 speed, and go from there.

Do not try to aim for the highest speed rating of what you have. Rather, take the weakest of the bunch, and make that your goal.

Also pay attention to voltages and timings. They all say 1.5V however, so that will make it a bit easier.
