I use "Kaspersky Pure Total Security" as my anti virus program for years. How do members rate this program compared to others? I recently had a problem with malware and it was solved. After downloading and running the recommended programs to detect and get rid of the malware, my anti-virus was running at the same time and it started to detect the malware more often then it did before. So I was wondering if the cypher criminals have found a way to disable part of my anti-virus program? If "Kaspersky" is a good program, then how did it allow the malware to be installed?

That Anti Virus is of high quality and highly respected. That being said, no Anti Virus can stop every virus or malware. These virus are getting more and more sophisticated, but I do not think that it shut down your AV. If you used the terms correctly, Malware is not exactly the same thing as a Virus. Using Malwarebytes in conjunction with you AV is the best way to stop Malware. You can use the free Malwarebytes and scan once a week.
It has been documented that once a virus gets into your system, they can and do, prevent system restore, prevent downloads, prevent AV from working. I have never heard of a situation that the Virus turns off the AV to prevent detection. All that being said, these creeps that write these virus stay up nights trying to find ways to beat us.

A well-configured, well-balanced, multi-layered defense [anti: viri, spy & mal ware] is best. In my experience, such defense is a never a one-time set & forget, rather, such is an ongoing tweaking, monitoring, scanning process.

Kaspersky's free version is at the top as far as free AVs go. (The commercial products aren't included in the tests for control reasons.) And the only reason it didn't get the AV of Year award ending 2014 was because they don't award it to the same AV two years in a row (comparison rules). So what's that tell ya? :)

I learned something else last night while researching AVs. I knew Windows 7 had built-in protections through the OS but never realized or found the level published. Windows 7 by itself (out of box) suppressed "Real World Attacks" with a rating of 83.5%. And Windows Firewall ranks equal to the highest rated add-on firewalls. This is the reason most of the third party AV comparison studies EXCLUDE Windows Microsoft AV software--Because so much of it is OS based.

Added: This is the reason it is so important to keep Windows and Microsoft software updated!
