Solved Question about BESTEC Power Supply

Hey guys I'm gonna buy an HD 5570 Low Profile Graphics card, Would It run on a BESTEC 250W Power Supply that came with my HP a6540d desktop?

Sapphire wants a minimum 400W power supply for their version:

SAPPHIRE HD 5550 1GB DDR3 HDMI#

and 550W for two cards in CrossfireX.

On the other hand, they also state:

"As of January,2010 AMD Radeon™ HD 5500 Series Graphics cards are the only graphics cards under 45 Watts at full load to provide full support for DirectX® 11, AMD Eyefinity technology and AMD Stream technology."

This strikes me as anything but self-consistent.

A popular PSU estimator:

suggests that a 225W PSU should be OK.

That is a CYA by all video card manufacturers to take into account the number of low quality power supplies out there. They know full well that the card and system don't need a 400 W power supply, but we have all seen the specs on some of those low cost/quality ones, and a lot of the lower wattage PSU's are even worse.

Considering the low power usage of a card like that HD 5570, a good quality 300-350 W power supply is more than enough in most cases. And no that 250 W Bestec won't cut it.

So, I really need to get a new Power Supply? I want a 350W Cheaper Power Supply, Could you reccomend one?

Maybe something Like this;

When it comes to Power Supplies, "Cheap" is a BAD word and may likely cost much more in the long run. try to stick with good brands such as Seasonic, Corsair and Antec.
As Mentioned, a 300-350W will be plenty from a good PSU.

At this time of the year lots of sales will be popping up too. So you may be able to get a 400-450W just as cheap or cheaper. May be slightly more than you really need, but will not hurt either.
