question about CMD methods?

i while use of method 'shutdown -i' over own network and when Enter a IP address specific in dialog box
then do click on ok appear to me in CMD windows ''access is denied''
now,i how must do it that is correct?

Try using
shutdown \\Computername
instead of the IP address

I can take it your using this with a Windows XP machine, because your using Windows XP syntax, I'm not sure if that will make any difference though.
