Question regarding Macrium free Backup

Good evening to all.I did a backup of my C drive today using Macrium backup free.Backed it up to an external HDD and also made a Boot disc.
All went well,May I ask two points on this backup
1st,Does this backup of the C dive include the program files etc or is it just the operating system?
2nd.When the time comes (never I hope) but we don't know that when the existing C drive fails and take it out of the desktop and fit a new one,I understand when it comes to start up pc I place the boot disc that I made into the disc drive and that will start windows install from the external hdd that the macrium backup is on.Am I correct in the both questions Please.

1. If your programs are on the C: drive then yes, they are backed up.

2. Also yes. You may need to set the boot order in the BIOS or UEFI so your computer will boot from the disk when it is in the optical drive.

Thanks for the prompt reply,When yo say set the boot order in the Bios or UEF1.Can you Please explain that part to me.I place the disc I made into the optical drive and what do I do next from there.
Excuse I'm not very technical minded more on the mechanical side yet but getting there with help from here.

The reference to (legacy) BIOS and UEFI is the firmware code stored on a chip on your PCs motherboard. This is the code that runs to start your PC before Windows is loaded from your hard drive. UEFI is a modern enhancement which most new PCs use.
During the booting process a screen will appear telling you which key to press to enter the BIOS or newer UEFI firmware. You will then find an option to set the device boot order.

However, rather than change the boot order you should hopefully see an option to select the boot device for this boot only retaining the normal boot order for normal boots. Here you select the CD/DVD drive. This is the most desirable option to select.

In my experience, that is NOT how MR works; instead, when you boot from the restore media, it will launch MR. You will then have to select restore, select the image you want to use, and select the disk to which you want the restore done.

Once you do that, the restore will run. When done, you exit from MR and reboot.

The restore process will restore the appropriate partition(s), typically the Windows partition and then the new restored partition will boot. Up until then Windows doesn't enter the scene. This is the whole point of having images so that you can replace your existing Windows partition with a healthy image.

You seen my post before I edited it I gave that link to one of my friends and he said it was to complicated for him and I reread the post and I agreed with him so I removed it.

The video from Kieth ( no offense Kieth ) But I hate video's with music in the background with no verbal guidance from the author

Macrium Reflect is a very simple program to use all you need is a separate partition or separate drive and a blank CD and after clicking about four or five settings and your done

A problem with the video you post is that it suggests cloning is the way to transfer your existing software installation (ie. OS, installed programs, data etc). It is one way and generally not the most efficient. System imaging is more efficient. I think the term cloning suggest a "pristine copy" and therefore the best way to proceed.

I got my first PC when I was 69 - and only because the wife went out and bought a Gateway laptop. Runs still fine today on Vista.

I was a mechanical engineer before I retired.

Just one point regarding the video that sml156 gave the guy on the video when he did the boot disc he made it (the Linux method) is that okay or should it have been the windows method??

Well, I had some computer background. But only on big IBM host systems - and those are completely different. And the last program I wrote was in 1966. After that I was only in management jobs.

On the other point - you should use the WinPE recovery disc. You can download the .iso from my Skydrive. Saves you 2 hours of downloading the WAIK.
