Solved Raid0 created in win7, not booting - how to fix MBR

Hi All,

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong section, not sure which category this falls under.

I'm trying to fix a PC that won't boot. It has 2 x 256GB Samsung 840 pro SSD's connected in a Raid0 array which was created in windows. All was previously working but i'm assuming power failures have occurred and it now won't boot.

Both SSD's are visible in the BIOS which is set to AHCI. Just get the 'operating system missing' message.

If i plug the drives into another win7 machine, i can see the 2 partitions OK.

I'm assuming the MBR needs to be rebuilt but all the info i can find online is either for non raid setup or for a hardware raid setup.

Both SSD's have been unplugged so do i need to confirm they are connected in the correct order? Or does it no matter for a windows/software raid config?

Can i use the bootrec command as normal or will i have to do something different for this setup?

Can anyone help?

First thing are you sure it is actually mbr and not a gpt disk

Yeah, it was MBR as i could see the drive info on the other machine.

Managed to get it sorted after all. Seems either someone had been fiddling in the BIOS settings and changed it from raid to AHCI, or power loss screwed the MBR and the BIOS defaulted to AHCI? (unlikely).

Since its not my system, i had assumed that the BIOS settings were correct.. What is it they say....never assume....

Once back in Raid mode i could fix the MBR and it all fired up.
