Ram completely filling up for a few seconds

I am new here, so I don't know if this is in the right place,but anyway. I have this problem, that my ram occasionally just fills up for a few seconds, maybe 10 or 20, and then goes back to normal, or even a bit less.
And I know this because I've got this cpu/memory meter on my desktop, which draws a graph of the current memory usage.
The computer (of course) freezes almost totally when that is happening. I have no idea for what could be causing this, but it usually just happens when I'm browsing the web. It happens maybe two times a week, or something like that. I've got no time to look at task manager, as it only lasts for such a short period, and totally clogs up everything, so I'm asking if anyone else has had this problem, or could someone suggest a ram tracking program which shows up every processes ram for the last few few minutes or so. Process Explorer is a good program to watch what is jumping in their and using your ram but it will still be very difficult to catch anything that quick.

You could try using another browser like I.E. or Firefox and see if you still have the same problem.

You could check a few things just using Windows.

1. Do you have anything that auto updates that could be jumping in there?
2. Do you have anything that is scheduled that could be starting up?
3. It could also be some sort of a infection calling home for a short period of time.
4. It could be a browser add on also calling home when you are browsing.
Have you tried any security scans looking for problems?
If you have please list them. Take a look at this Tutorial # 7 & 8. This could help you a lot. Do not mess with Windows Services.

1. I checked, and indeed, I had Windows automatic updates on (every day, 3:00 am, and the last ram spike occurred at approximately that time, maybe half an hour later.)

3. I had a virus for a while, igfxupdate.exe at C:\Windows\SysWOW64\update, which forces the cpu load to 100%, and closes automatically when you open the task manager so it's harder to detect. I couldn't delete it my self, and f-Secure only deleted it temporarily as it always came back on restart. But now I have probably got rid of it.
4. Might be, I have 5 add-ons (AdBlock Plus, AdBlock, Magic actions for YouTube, PanicButton and YouTube ratings preview)

I've also got no startup programs
And I just scanned my whole computer with f-Secure and it found nothing.
I'll keep an eye out for the time the lag spikes occur, so I can be sure about the windows update thing causing it.

You must check more that one way to make sure your computer is clean. Using more than one program.
