RAM problems

Hello all
A check of my Spec's, will show that I am running (2x2) Gb of Corsair CMZ4GX3M2A1600C9. this occupies 2x slots (of 4 available). I accessed the Giga site and 8GB is possible, but made the mistake of ordering the cheaper (4x2) sticks of Crucial CT25664BA1399A.

I removed the Corsair and fitted the Crucial 8GB. No boot!
Tried 2 of the sticks in 2 paired slots. Boot! Tried 2 more in other 2 paired slots. Boot!
Tried all combinations of these in 2 paired slots, Boot OK. Put all 4 sticks in, no Boot!

Tried the Corsair (original RAM) in original slots, then in other 2 slots. Boot OK, both times. Retrieving some of my lost hair, I left the original RAM in the original slots. Everything works OK, but I would still like to fit 8GB of RAM. I have proved that the RAM (both sets) is OK, but the board will not take 8GB of the Crucial stuff. I can easily buy another (2x2) GB of the Corsair, but will it work?

Gigabyte lists both sets on their Support List. This is what it says:4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory (Note 1)

1. Dual channel memory architecture (Note 2)
2. Support for DDR3 1333(OC)/1066/800 MHz memory modules

'Because of Intel chipset limitation, please use single-side memory module if four memory modules are to be installed.'

Does the (italic) statement mean that I cannot install 8GB, because the RAM is double-sided? I am not well versed in memory applications, so am unsure of this. If so, it probably means that I cannot install another(2x2) GB of the Corsair suff. And I have learned yet another expensive lesson!

Or is it 1339A?

The 1339A specs at Crucial do not appear to say if it is single or double sided.

When it comes to matching Ram you can use the Crucial site but it would be better to pull the stick write down the exact model sku etc then go hunting for that same type

If you had a box with the make of ram on it would make it much easier

You can't go wrong following the exact make you are looking for when you search for that specific type and not all ram will work even if the timmings match some boards are just iffy that way

I have the make, etc, of the original RAM. Problem is this:

I cannot find out if the Corsair CMZ4GX3M2A1600C9 I already have, and listed in my OP, is single- or double-sided. I have e mailed Corsair and crucial about this, but they do take time to answer. "Sided" RAM: how to tell PHYSICALLY please? Does it mean that the chips are on both sides of the stick?

Sorry if that seems an obvious question to answer, but I am self-taught and will probably be learning until my perch is empty!

I stand to be corrected, but going from memory you cannot tell by eye.

Chips on both sides or just one side is not necessarily an indicator of "banks"--I realize that is not intuitive.

You need to get deeper into the specs and ideally get an answer from Crucial/Corsair.

I'd guess you have run afoul of the italicized limitation.

I just received word from Crucial: the RAM is double-sided, so I guess I can sell it on. I don't want to return it, tho' I guess I could, as I know someone who wants it NOW and will give me almost the price paid, which was reasonable anyway.

Best part is that I have learned something from it.
