I bought a 2 pack of Kingston 2gig ram which would be 4 gigs of ram but my systems window says I only have 2 gigs of ram. What's up with that?

Jack, you can bathe in RAM. And 14 Gig is kind of an odd number.

Isn't 14 GB the available RAM, and 16 GB the installed amount, so the 14 GB number is not odd, as it can vary ?

I'm on a W10 OS now with 4 GB RAM installed for this pic

Sorry guys, I just tried to do what you asked but no way I can get it. Just don't have any idea how to do this. There has to be an easier way to get it. I did find the resourse monitor but can't get it to copy to the tread.

**Please post the exact ram you are using.**

Posting a website with the ram would work also.

I understand that you bought a pack with two matched memory modules. Is that correct.

Also a couple of other things you can try.

1. Check your bios and see if the installed memory is recognized.

2. Remove the ram modules (sticks) and install again. Look closely that they are installed correctly and completely.

Your motherboard should of come with a manual. Do you have it?

The specs I found for your memory.

ECS > GeForce6100SM-M (V1.0/1.0A)

º 2 x 240-pin DDR2 DIMM socket support up to 16 GB*
º * (Due to the DRAM maximum size is 2GB at present, the memory maximum size we have tested is 4GB)
º Dual-channel DDR2 memory architecture
º Support DDR2 800/667/533/400 DDR2 SDRAM
Due to the operating system limitation, the actual memory size may be less than 4GB for the reservation for system usage under Windows® 32-bit OS.
For Windows® 64-bit OS with 64-bit CPU, there is no such limitation

I had 32 gb of ram but I can't keep GSkil ram working. So now I'm down to 16 gb.

I should of bought Corsair or Kingston.

If LB's suggestions don't help, next i would try each stick of the new RAM, one at a time to make sure each stick works.
It's possible one of the new sticks is defective, and not being recognized.

Before you got the new RAM, were you using 2 1GB sticks so you know both MB RAM slots work, or were you using 1 2GB stick and never tested both MB RAM slots ?

No, these sticks are the ones I built the system with. I will shut down and check the ram sticks.

Oh, i assumed you upgraded an old PC because your specs show
CPU
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000*

Did you just build the PC, or has it always worked this way for years ?

I'm not knocking the CPU, i'm on my test box right now that has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ CPU, and this was built years ago in the XP days, similar tech to a AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000.

You guys are right. I opened the case and it says they are 1 gig each. Not what I ordered but that was years ago and it has been sitting in the closet as a back up. Pulled the chips out of the other one and now it says 4 gigs like it should. Thanks for the help.

I didn't think of this earlier.
Speccy is a good tool gives a lot of system info, including RAM info for manufacturer, part number, size, and more.
They have a portable version available on the Builds page, no install needed.
