Solved Ram Usage

Greetings,
My laptop has got 2GB RAM, but only 1.86 GB is usable,
Why and how could I use it completely?

1.86GB equals 2GB in binary. Any binary number will show smaller (in this case by 7%) than the corresponding decimal number.

Most likely the difference is in use by the video system. This is very common in laptops.

See if there's an upgrade to 3gb's of ram
64 bit would be best for 4gb's and above
32bit would do best with 3gb's but would most likely be 4gb's but 32 bit would only see 3gb's or just under that availability

Guys, none of your good advice will help the OP. He is merely looking at a math problem. If you never learned to calculate in binary, it will be difficult to understand. Just take my word for it that the OP has absolutely no problem.

This is expected behavior on computers that are running Windows 7. The reduction in available system memory depends on the configuration of the following:
The devices that are installed in the computer and the memory that is reserved by those devices
The ability of the motherboard to handle memory
The System BIOS version and settings
The version of Windows 7 that is installed (For example, Windows 7 Starter Edition only supports 2 GB of installed memory.)

While Hard drives are specified by the manufacturers in Decimal and it is necessary to relate that to binary within the computer, RAM is not specified in decimal.

2Gbs of RAM is 2GBs, and will show as 2GBs in the computer.

My guess is some RAM is used by some other function, e.g. graphics.

Just up the ram to 4 GB, or as I like to say......
