We have some of the best ppl for BSOD's here (im not one of them) they willl be along.
CAn you go to c:\windows\minidump, zip the dump files (*.dmp) and upload them to us. to upload you use the attachment icon (shaped like a paperclip) in the reply form

Dont hesitate to ask if you need help with anything.

Just coming back to check on you. the error message is you need admin rights? we can fix that quick. to get admin rights you need to run as admin. there are instructions on how to here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/783-elevated-command-prompt.html?ltr=E

then you should be able to.

let us know if it doesn't

okay. I tried several things and finally copied my dumps to another folder and got them ziped.. now the 'manage attachents" has been saying "uploading files for a while and seems to be stalled... zip file is only 828 K.. should have been a quick transfer..

Hi -

Very nice assortment of mini kernel dumps... thank you!

The >20 dumps had various bugchecks. One thing was very evident from the first one on October 3 - you have both Norton 360 and McAfee Internet Security installed.

McAfee appears to have been recently updated - Oct 3 would be about right for these drivers to hit your system -
Code:
[FONT=lucida console]mfeapfk.sys  Thu Sep 03 17:03:34 2009 (4AA05956)[/FONT]
[FONT=lucida console]mfeavfk.sys  Thu Sep 03 17:04:14 2009 (4AA0597E)[/FONT]
[FONT=lucida console]mfefirek.sys Thu Sep 03 17:09:46 2009 (4AA05ACA)[/FONT]
[FONT=lucida console]mfehidk.sys  Thu Sep 03 17:02:31 2009 (4AA05917)[/FONT]
[FONT=lucida console]mfendisk.sys Thu Sep 03 17:03:08 2009 (4AA0593C)[/FONT]
[FONT=lucida console]mferkdet.sys Thu Sep 03 17:04:46 2009 (4AA0599E)[/FONT]
[FONT=lucida console]mfewfpk.sys  Thu Sep 03 17:02:57 2009 (4AA05931)[/FONT]

Strangely, only this single Norton 360 driver shows up; none others -
Code:
[FONT=lucida console]cfwids.sys   Sat Aug 01 11:32:38 2009 (4A748A46)  Norton 360[/FONT]

Keep an eye out for updates to this Atheros wifi driver as the MS network driver ntdll.dll was blamed in a few of the dumps. athrx.sys has caused its own share of BSODs in the past, but I cannot speak ill about this particular version -
Code:
athrx.sys    Wed Mar 11 20:43:16 2009 (49B884D4)

NVIDIA drivers also showed up in some BSODs with 0x116 bugchecks -Video TDR = the display adaptor timed out during a reset. I would start with the removal of both N360 & McAfee as one may have corrupted the other - or both.

Use their respective removal tools -

I remover the 360 (was preloaded on machine when I got it) and the McAfee. I had loaded that when I found out my Windows Live OneCare would not work on 7. I will load the AVG and see if this corrects the problem.
so far I can't even get through a backup with out crashing.
I keep getting messages about NVIDIA conflicts and have tried to correct with the Windows 7 driver, not sure if that is still a issue.

thanks for the help and I'll update with the results. or more minidumps..

I prefer the Avira Free for Win7 32 bit, and the Avast Free for Win7 64 bit - but that's just a personal opinion.

Hi -

Boot into SAFEMODE to get some breathing room while you back up files. The NVIDIA drivers do not load in SAFEMODE.

Are you backing up in preparation for a re-install ... ?

i got rid of the McAfee and Norton, ran a full backup, and so far still up and running.. I did download AVG9.0 to try it out and see if any issues reappear..

I usually do complete back ups beacuse of the data on the system to keep all my photos and other files backed up.. and maintain a schedule to keep the backup up to date... I keep saying nee top put one of the backups in the fire safe.. hate to lose all these pics of the kids and trips

The freezing when the mouse hits on users could be RAM. Logon to another user account & and see if the freezing persists. Use the hidden admin account if no others available -
START | cmd.exe | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe - type the following -

net user administrator /active:yes

Logoff your account. Administrator is waiting.

athrx.sys BSOD

I've been experiencing frequent BSODs blaming athrx.sys (the Atheros wifi driver), specially when I have Bittorrent running. I remember having updated this driver a while back using Device Manager's own "Update Driver" function, but it hasn't solved the problem.

The currently installed driver is:
athrx.sys 2.0.0.75 09/06/2009

BTW, this notebook came with Vista factory installed, and I'm not running any antivirus software (dangerous, I know).
