Random BSOD usually when not under load.

Hey Tony, ganjiry here (Ganji to you) is a friend. He's helped me out on more than one occasion, so we try to look out for him and his friends. That's why I called the best in to take a look and see. Arc is the absolute best there is. If you have anything you don't understand or would just like some advice, feel free to ask. We don't mind at all.

I know hes always available to help, and I appreciate the help and advice received from members of this forum :D

Hello Tony2Tubes,
try "http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/windows-repair-all-in-one/"
download portable version. After you run the software please click tab "Repaires"
Please "select all" and start repair, remember it will take long time to finish it.

PS. Please do this process in "safe mode". Let see how it goes.
after scan and repair is done please do gpu, intel chipset, and mainboard firmware update if there are any new one provide from manufacture.
Hi and thanks for your post, I would rather find out what the fault is on my pc rather than running a programme that may or may not resolve my issue :D

Check your temps and tell me what the CPU and GPU temps are.

Hello again, my temps are hovering around 70 0c for gpu whilst playing bf4, and cpu gets to around high 40 0c mark.

just a note but I started to swap hardware to try to see if this would help, first I tried some new ram sticks, still bsod, so I swapped my gpu (780ti) for my sons gpu (670ftw) I haven't had a bsod since swapping, so I put my gpu into my sons pc thinking this must be faulty, but it hasn't bsod yet, so I put his 2nd 670ftw in my pc to run in sli and about afew minutes later bsod  now im pondering psu ???? its approx. 1 year old a corsair ax860.

In this situation crash dumps are not very useful in most of the cases. Generally is is said that a stop 0x124 is a hardware related issue, but actually anything and everything associated with teh computer may cause this particular BSOD.

Better you follow http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...top-0x124-what-means-what-try.html#post354696 from the top. Let us know about your progress. Also if you need any clarification or assistance about the steps, feel free to let us know.

Hi Arc ive started the steps and result as follows.
1) nothing is overclocked all standard, but I did have my cpu overclocked in the past, pc ran ok temps never got very high as I have a noctua cpu fan.

2) I have a decent tower case with 2 large top fans, 3x front fans, 1x base fan, 2xrear fans, and 1x large side fan, temps never got high, I use afterburner to display temps on keyboard screen to keep an eye on things.

3) im pretty sure im up to date with drivers apart from gpu as the most recent ones seem to cause choppy game play and crashes, so im using an older driver as it seems to perform better.

4) never done bios update, scares me, heard people say in the past "don't as its risky", but im willing to try if it fixes the problem, but will need some dutch courage (jack daniels plenty of) and a nudge in the right direction of a good guide of how to. if all goes wrong at least I can learn from it

5) just did a clean install of windows seven, nothing else installed no updates etc.

6) I have stress test everything, apart from psu. checked discs etc all passed with no issues. stress test on gpu I saw some errors on the picture on the screen but put this down to the drivers. but I would of thought psu would be stressed during this test.

7) see 5

is there a good test for power unit? or is it best to swap it, bit of nightmare but if it fixes the bsod :dinesh::party:

Have a read of my post above this one aswell

Yes, it would answer that question. Use your Son's and just unhook yours and plug your Son's in. It doesn't have to look neat, it's just a test. See if you have better results.

Hello again hope your all well and sorry for the long time between posts, with work etc not much time to fiddle with pc.
the latest news is I tried different gpu, psu, ran all tests etc checked everything was seated and connections correct and still got bsod.
So what I have done now is removed everything from pc, except motherboard and cpu, then I hooked up a hdd I knew was fine, and installed os on this. tried for a while no bsod, so installed all drivers for motherboard etc, tested, no bsod, ran all windows updates, no bsod, installed gpu, no bsod, installed Microsoft security essentials and steam (GTAV only) and as yet I have not had a bsod, so im thinking it narrowed it down to my ssd being duff or a sata cable/connector being faulty.
so my next task will be to install os on ssd and disconnect hdd to see if I get bsod,if I do i will try cable 1st and then ssd.
id like to thank you guys for your patience and advise, giving up your time for this forum i doth my cap X)

not sovled yet but hopefully very close.

That sounds very good, so far. When you install on the SSD, be sure you disconnect all other drives except for the SSD during installation. Please let us know how it goes and what the problem ends up being. You did very well. Exactly what you should do. Well done.
