Solved Random BSOD's at random times often error 0x0000001E

Ok thanks. Got another torn into stripes screen with the verifier enabled, before i could read your latest posts. File attached (SF_02-09-2014_2.zip).

Amd Sata AHCI and AMD USB was not installed but now is. SSD Firmware was 5.03 but not 5.05, which it is now. I updated it from 1.3 to 5.03 earlier, not knowing there's a newer version. BIOS is up to date, as I mentioned earlier in this thread.

EDIT: Alright, after restarting Windows installed something for the SSD and a HDD and told me to restart. I think we are getting closer

EDIT2: Was watching something on twitch.tv and after 1 min the error message in the picture attached popped up and everything opened crashed, except Windows (got thrown to desktop). After restarting once again, everything seems to be fine, as I'm writing this. Created another SF zip: SF_02-09-2014_3

EDIT3: Here we go again. BSOD 0x0000001E. Dump file 090214-13046-01 in the SF_02-09-2014_4 zip. Uninstalling and sweeping ATI/AMD graphics driver and installing the beta one now.

That's a Windows Error reporting function. It is either corrupt or you habe other files missing. Let's try this again

Open a elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Ok scannow did not find anything. Installed the ATI/AMD beta graphics driver. What about the other fails, torn into stripes with verifier enabled and BSOD I mentioned ?

griachae, I am believing this is either the GPU, Motherboard or the PSU. I really am not familiar with the brand of PSU. I do understand that it is well thought of in Europe. Here in the US, this is the best review site we have. I would like you to go there and read the reviews on your Motherboard ASRock 970 PRO3 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS - Newegg.com Your GPU, on the other hand gets great reviews. GIGABYTE GV-R787OC-2GD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Newegg.com .

So, I would like to know if you have another graphics card or have a friend who has a spare or would be willing to swap cards with you for a test. PSU and Motherboards are 2 things we have few if any good tests for. We can test the PSU, but it is difficult when under load. The Motherboard is just the process of elimination. Also, did you download and install your Lan Driver?

How opposed are you to make a clean install?

EDIT: I've also called in the cavalry.

Well to be honest I'm not the biggest fan of my mainboard anymore and I bought it back then, although a friend said it's not good and he heard bad stuff about it. The reviews I've read on the site you linked to both the Graphics Card and the Mainboard are quite mixed to be honest, but I can feel what this guy is writing about:
Pros: Great Layout - Good Features - Great Price!

Cons: AM3+ issues with Piledriver tech. Not fully supported.
BSOD's for days!
Cant go 3 hours without a freeze or BSOD

Other Thoughts: I purchased this board back in February of this year, I am a Broadband Analyst by trade and my home PC is a must! This was a budget build but had I known these would be the case I would have put out a bit more.

CPU - FX6300
Ram set 1 - G.skill DD3-1333 PC3-10666 4 G sticks X2

Ran Set 2 (Purchased it this weekend) PNY XLR8 8Gb stick -1600 Mhz -Cas 9 - 1.5v - DDR3 PC3 12800

When I received the board I stick a fresh isntal of Windows 8 on it, after contacting Microsoft about various BSOD's they remoted in ran their test for about 5 min and another BSOD issue - logged back in tried again and crash they tried for 3 hours. This is after me trying to reinstall Win 8 3 more times OFC.

So, Windows 7 - installed fine, posted, default UEFI Bios settings - BSOD's or freezes and pretends to be receiving input.

Tuned settings, turned X-boost on - stabile for days with X-boost, but it seems to have an excelorator problem, Games when played are out of sync videos are choppy. Turn X-boost off tand that goes away but so does the stability.

Bios was under volting and does not detect proper timings from both sets of ram. changed to 1.5 V on ram and proper timings (9-9-9-24) and still no resolve.

Extensive ram testing, multiple NEW sticks of ram (I've invested more in new hardware at this point than I would have if I would have purchased new $200 board =x)

needless to say after MONTHS of trial and error, and doing my part in ironing out all possible bugs, its past my return time for new egg, and the flimsy structure on the board and its odd PCI-E clips (Broke on day 1) I now have voided any chance of an RMA with ASRock. AVOID THIS BOARD! Months of work, and still giving me issues...

This board is coming out next pay period and I will never buy anything from ASRock again..

Oh and customer service / Tech support from them - It's non exsistant.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the BSOD, please download and update the latest BIOS at " ASRock > 970 Pro3 R2.0 " .
Set the UEFI BIOS default.
Test with single memory module on A1 or A2 slot, switching another memory if its same issue.
Check the CPU is not overheating.
If you have any technical issues please contact us at ASRock > Support Request Form. We will assist you shortly.

Thank you

After reading this I almost want to buy a new mainboard right away.

I have an old Nvidia GPU lying around somewhere. I could test with that one i guess. Can't remember the model right now but I've been using it before on my old mainboard and had no problems at all.

I installed the latest LAN driver from the realtek site not the mainboard site and I think it's better that way.

Clean install: Uninstall all ATI/AMD software. Reboot. Reboot into safe mode. Run drive sweeper and select all ATI dirvers. Reboot and install new driver.

Try your Nvidia graphics card, but first be sure to uninstall your AMD drivers, then clean out the lrftover drivers (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/83814-drivers-clean-left-over-files-after-uninstalling.html)
then shut down and install the card. When you boot back up install the graphics drivers. Let me know how that goes and what card model it is. The test will be meaningful, simply because if it works with no problems, that means you most likely have a bad card or a bad PSU.

When they first came out, I bought a Gigabyte 6950OC. It has been a great card and is still working in another machine. They do make some good cards. But, the Nvidia card should tell us the PCIe slot is working right. That really only leaves 2 things it could be. Other than drivers, there is little involved other than the PSU supplying power and the card itself.

Okay thanks. I will do so but that's gonna take at least until Sunday. Can you recommend any mainboard that fits? I want to buy the same GPU and run it crossfire with the first one at some day, if it's not the reason for my crashes. But I will need a new PSU that day I guess.

The PSU is a C49089 BE QUIET PURE POWER L7 530W and I have not heard a single bad thing about be quiet before. The 530W should be enough, am I right?

Yes, that should be enough. I wasn't implying it wasn't a good one, but it is only recently I have seen Be Quiet starting to come into the US, so I'm not familiar with them. I have a friend in the UK and we talk frequently. He has told me that the brand is very well thought of there. but, even the best brands can go bad occasionally.

I would imagine you may need another PSU if you do CFX. I'll do some research on another board. I will be happy to, but you may need to remind me. I stay pretty busy on these forums, but my fun comes from researching other products and doing new builds. So, I would be more than happy to help you find a new board.

The time is up to you, so it is no problem. We never close, we're here 24/7.

You already made me think that this is by far the best forum I have ever been to. So Thank you very much for your time already.

Let's see maybe when the calvalry arrives we get something we have not found already. I just have seen the system power supply requirement of a single GV-R787OC-2GD is 500W. Is it possible that the rest like CPU, RAM and so on require more than 30 Watts? Because then I would have bought the wrong components to begin with. Although I've already played power demanding games on this system with these components like Battlefield 3 or DayZ without ever crashing.

The only big change I've made which might be the cause for all the BSOD's is the firmware update aka internet flash of the mainboard. I have had some BSOD before the flash but not so frequently at all.

Well after some thinking I have made a decision: I hate to dig around in the dirt of something that seems not solvable. Too much of wasted time. And since the GV-R787OC-2GD will not be available much longer and has great reviews about the crossfire mode on newegg.com I'm gonna stick to the plan.

Going to get a new Mainboard, new PSU and a second GV-R787OC-2GD for crossfire, although I've never done crossfire. It would be great if you can help me finding the perfect PSU and Mainboard.

Usually the PSU requirements they list is for the whole system, so you are still good there. Whatever the recommend, I usually go over that. I think the sweet spot for a PSU is usually 60-70%. At that it is at it's best efficiency, runs cooler with less strain and will last longer. Also, you are not limited if you decide to do some upgrades.

My only hesitation on your plan is that we have never determined if the graphics card is the problem. Do you have another rig you could put it in, or have a friend who would put it in their machine for a couple of days and test it for you? That would be the best way to go and would let you know for sure the card is OK. I would hate for you to do all of that and still have the BSODs. You would not be a happy camper, as we say.

Yep you're right.I just don't want to wait until Sunday. So I have been trying to change BIOS settings, random Windows settings, adding volts to the RAM and tried AMD OVERDRIVE, just because maybe something helps and I'm getting random BSOD's again. This is the latest.

Just a suggestion. Set your bios to optimized defaults. You will need the set your sata controller to whatever it is right now, or it will not boot. I believe Asrock default is IDE mode. Set your ram to Manufacturer's specs and set your boot order.

The dump file is totally inconclusive and does not tell us anything. But, I think you already know that. You have mad some changes to settings that has messed your system up. Technically, the dump file seems to be blaming your CPU, which is highly unlikely.

The driver is a Windows update, but notice it says HDAudBus which makes me wonder is it the HD Audio driver or the Bus.

Do you happen to have a spare hard drive that we could use for a test that would lose all the data on it? I know from the dump files it is a third party driver referenced in many of the cases. The graphics driver qualifies, but just want to do a clean install, but in a very specific way. Would you be willing to just give it a try? Better still, would you be able to try your card in another machine to find out if it is the card? The decision you made makes everything but the card, meaningless. If you are replacing the board and PSU, if they are bad, it won't matter. The only thing you are carrying over is the card. That will be the only thing that matters.

Yes my SSD firmware is up to date. I installed Avira Antivir Pro again. 3 BSOD's while trying to install updates of Avira. Finally finished. Then manually ran complete system check of Avira. Funnily the computer crashed twice, when Avira is searching C:\ATI :D
I think there's something among the bushes.

May it be that the 3 different audio hardwares (ATI HDMI Audio, Realtek HD Audio and Soundblaster Z) interfere each other?

I will test my graphics card in a friends computer today. Test results in minimum 9 hours.
