Computer Blacks out at random, BSOD.

:D This is good news! You have options, my friend. Now you even have a decent monitor. Finances? I'm sure most of us have been there. Oh, I could tell you some stories.. lol I am not above dumpster diving and I can vouch that the rewards at times can be surprisingly good. E-bay is a good place to buy and sell used parts but buyer beware, you never know when you could buy a dud. Garage sales, next-to-new stores, and community internet buy, sell, and trade forums can expand the list. This is how I managed to build three fine PCs for my daughters. Admittedly, most of the parts in those are new now from swapping out over the course of time but that is how I got started and I've been building PCs going on two decades now. Sniff around. The possibilities are endless. Just out of curiosity... How much ram can you put in that thing? You may wish to consider building something a bit newer for your personal use and converting that one into a poor man's NAS. Always good to have your own little storage server on the side. All is not lost!

Sorry for necroposting or necrobumping, I have been away due to sickness. Furthermore I apologize if the thread is too old.
I have recently recovered and tried getting back on working on this computer rig and, while it still has the same issues as always, have made some weird progress/found some things that only make my problem weirder.
Running Safe Mode always works, regardless of the graphics card being on the mobo or not.
Running Win7 normally and NOT installing the graphics drivers will allow the computer to work normally, can't play any games obviously but YouTube still works, installing them and rebooting the computer will then start the issues.
I also, out of curiousity tried running the computer on the onboard GPU, it'll try to install some graphics drivers, after rebooting, the computer doesn't work anymore, doesn't get on Windows, rebooting it will tell me to head to Start Repairs and perform a back in time procedure that deletes the drivers, after that, it starts up well, tries installing the onboard GPU drivers whatever they are and the loop ensues.

I am so stumped about this problem, it is a complete mystery what the problem is. :/ If anyone is still available tro try to help I'd appreciate any help.

Scannerman, I believe I can fit 4GB Max on this, not too sure. I'd gladly take your advice and buy another graphics card however I'm afraid that the problem might not reside on the current card and be something else entirely. Judging from my past experiences I wouldn't be surprised if the graphics card was just a small piece in a bigger puzzle D: could perhaps reinstalling the OS do anything??? Another user here said that the OEM was faulty? And that this Win7 is fake. Could that be doing issues? I've also scoured online and people say that the drivers could be conflicting with Realtek drivers????

Anyways terribly sorry for the wall of text, hope I can get some help.

Also I'm not sure if I have already mentioned but this graphics card was customized by ASUS??? I tried the ASUS drivers they had, same mojo, same problem :/ there's no Win7 drivers even for this card

Looks Authentic Enough

Well by the looks of that last post your o/s seems authentic. Of course, there's probably no real way of telling for certain other than contacting Microsoft and checking with them. I've had to do this a few times myself and every time it came up genuine but that isn't to say that the counterfeits don't exist. The process can be lengthy so I'm not sure you will want to invest that sort of time and energy but it helps to know for a fact that you are using a genuine o/s. Do you know someone with a compatible card for that board that you might be able to try out? It's been a while so if you could refresh my memory with the make and model of the graphics card and the motherboard it could help. Generally ASUS makes pretty reliable motherboards and you've already stated that it will run fine with onboard graphics. It is more likely in my estimation that the graphics card is faulty but if the motherboard isn't compatible with Windows 7 then it won't matter anyway. Sometimes Belarc Advisor >>> http://www.belarc.com/products_belarc_advisor can come in handy for getting the system specs on your PC as well as all the activation keys. Be sure to write them all down somewhere and keep these in a safe place. If you are thinking about reinstalling your o/s you will need them to reinstall your applications. Somehow I don't think the problem is your o/s. Call it a hunch. I'll check that list one more time but before I speculate any further I need to know the make and model of the motherboard and the graphics card.

Okay I scrolled way on back and found that information I needed. This card is worth 8 bucks on Ebay so it's no great loss if it's defunct. By any chance does it look like the one in this link? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Radeon-X1050-video-card-/142449972025 You may need to get a certain driver for your motherboard from the ASUS website. Some of those error codes look suspiciously like a certain famous "nasty" due to a particular proprietary driver that you can pretty much only get from ASUS. I have the Canadian support link here but I'm sure you can navigate to one that suits you better. Let me know how it goes. https://www.asus.com/ca-en/support/

I see, so the OS is out of the way? Hmm I downloaded a tool called GPU-Z and I checked on the info for the card, gosh darn it no one knows what card this is-
I'm gonna post a few screenshots here about what GPU-Z said against what my device manager said. I'll edit this post with them

Did a little more research and all I can say is this thing looks like a recipe for disaster. It's so o-o-old! If you can run it fine without the graphics card I'd say let it run and save your pennies for something a bit newer. You will be continuously running into problems with this motherboard given the age of the board and it's manufacturer. It's not an ASUS motherboard and I'm surprised you actually managed to get Windows 7 U to run on it. I'm assuming you're using the 32 bit version. Windows 7 on a Pentium D board is already pushing the envelope -- especially with only 2 GB of RAM. I wish you the best but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Limits are a real thing. Have fun :) Foxconn 662 7MA http://foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=Motherboard&U=en-us0000217

I see so the motherboard could be the real issue ScannerMan? :) Well without graphical capabilities its useless to me since I want to work with 3D modelling and play games.
I'm interested in testing out installing Win XP on this machine using a secondary HDD and see what would happen, yes it is a Foxconn motherboard, the graphics card says Asus on it, however the computer sees it as an ATI Radeon card. Its a mess D:

Yes, by all means try out XP on it. You'll probably have better success but make sure you keep all your activation keys for the *cough* software you may or may not have. I'm not saying the motherboard is bad. It's just old and XP or VISTA might be better suited to this sort of board. I used to play around with old Elite boards much the same way. The ATI business is just the name of the company that made the graphics card for ASUS before ATI was bought out by AMD. Don't let that throw you. ASUS still has AMD and NVIDIA making components for them. :)

arrrgh! Beta drivers. The VG reference is probably for VGA.

Here are the photos, fortunately I have another build laying around I can rip some parts of, I can simply slap the Win XP HDD on this build, wondering if this board supports IDE because the other computer is even older.

It looks like you're using the infamous stolen Lenovo key. This key was blocked before Windows 7 was released, any system using this key is a counterfeit.

As Layback Bear said, return the computer.

Rule 4
No piracy or discussion of piracy allowed at all. Such as software, music, videos and other intellectual property violations (e.g. downloading youtube videos locally etc) - it is forum policy that no help shall be given to people who knowingly steal software or services.

One of the main reasons for this is that the act of pirating software will inevitably change the working of software and make investigation and repair impossible. Please install a legitimate copy of the software and if you are still experiencing the issue we will be pleased to assist - No further assistance will be provided until we are satisfied that the software is genuine.

Huh, is that so? I wasn't aware of this, Layback Bear did say that the software was counterfeit but that proves it, I wasn't aware of this at all since the seller didn't tell me any of it. Thank you for clarifying. I have no intention to return it as the seller won't take it back anymore. I want to fix it and perhaps sell it off or keep it for myself for upgrading. I will work on getting a legal copy of Windows 7. Perhaps the fact it is counterfeit could be causing the issue (which is a theory I had in mind, I have an old Windows XP disc laying around and I'll try and install that before moving on to buying a legal copy of Win7) I will report back once I get rid of the fake OS :)

From post #24
Windows Product Key: *****-*****-YG69F-9M66D-PMJBM

Just as axe0 has posted.
Your product key is a stolen Lenovo key and will never activate properly.

The way to solve this problem is to buy a proper Windows 7 DVD made by Microsoft with the matching product key. That is if you can still find a legal one.
One must be careful; their is a lot of counterfeit or stolen COA keys being sold.

SCANNERMAN777, the system is spoofed to let it think the activation is genuine.
The Windows Activation dialog very often shows the OS as genuinely activated when in reality it isn't.
There are quite a lot of threads in the Windows Update & Activation forum where you can see this.
