Hi again, sorry about the (very) delayed response. at the time i was quite busy and eventually forgot about this.
anyway, i have attached a list of the new screens since my last post. i tried to run the bitdefender program you mentioned by booting my pc from a usb with it on, but it asked for a product key and wouldn't work without one.
since my last post, i have changed my media player from WMP to VLC and have noticed an improvement.
the buzzing sound and burning smell i mentioned in an earlier post have not come back yet.
one other thing, my father seems to think it could be my wireless card that is setting it off. it seems weird though, as it gets set off when the wifi is both on and off.
