Random crashes, different causes?

So i decided to register in the forum, looking for some expert who helped me to solve my BSOD problem. My CPU has EM64T technology, thus i installed Win 7 x64. I really don't remember if i obtained some BSOD with win 7 x86 before that.

The crash happens whenever it wants, i can't do nothing to "reproduce it". Some times i'm on inet or playing games like GRID. Analyzing the crash dump with windbg, there were different causes each time: like nvlddmkm.sys, ntfs.sys, and others.

What i did is to uninstall my recently added 9400Gt, and since then (5/2/2010) i've obtained only win32k.sys crashes.
I uploaded my minidumps for you to check, hopefully this forum will solve my problem.

*Really don't wanna format yet...

Welcome!

This usually points to a hardware problem. Just for good measure, open an elevated command prompt and run sfc /scannow. This will check the integrity of your system files.

What you should really do is test your hardware, though. Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD. Boot from it, and run at least 5 passes.

Also try testing your hard drive. Go the the manufacturer's site and download their diagnostic software. If you need help, please post the brand and model of your hard drive, and we will find the software for you.

Hope this helps,
~JK

Hi!, and thanks for the reply.

Well, i did what you said: sfc/scannow didn't find anything. I used Seatool for the dignostic of my Seageate Barracuda 7200.9,i ran a few tests, but nothing seemed to be wrong. (the log is uploaded)

I downloaded the memtest86 iso and booted from it. It froze at 86% on the third pass. What could that mean? Also it found around 26 errors.

About the crashes dump: tried to examinate some arguments with the !IRP command, but i'm a newbie on that stuff. Can someone plz help on that??

That means you really need to consider buying new RAM, or borrowing some from a friend to make sure it is not your slot that is bad.

Well my motherboard has got two slots for RAM, with 1GB each one. Also i keep my old 512x2 modules. So i'll try changing them and running memtest to see how it works.

But appart from that, can someone please look at the crash dump and tell me if it reveal something? I really tried to debug it by myself, but i just found some rare and extrange reports.

thnks a lot.

Well, I can call in an expert or 2 to give a second opinion, but I believe they will agree with me.

the 13 crash dumps you submitted all show a variety of hardware crashes where the NT kernel has fallen over , the fact it doesn't show a driver as the cause strongly suggests it's hardware so I agree with what J King has said this is going to be your ram

try swapping and changing slots make sure they are clean from dust and make sure your grounded :geek:

Has it been this way since you had the ram in place ?

I would try and find some ram that is on your motherboards compatible list ;)

also this driver
Rtnic64.sys fffff880`03f80000 fffff880`03f92000 0x00012000 0x48401957 30/05/2008 15:12:23
is old and needs replacing , I think it is likely a realtek nic driver ?

As JK has stated Memory corruption. There are so many different causes you need to resolve the memory first then we can address the rest.

Wow thanks a lot for all the responses.:D

It's definitely not a compatibility problem. I've used the pc for more than a year with the same hardware config. The only thing i changed recently was my graphics card (upgraded from geforce 7100gs to 9400gt, obviously with the latest drivers), but i removed it in order to check if that was the cause.

So when i do the tests with the ram i'll post the results here...

Hi again, here is what i did:

First, i removed one of the 2 modules, leaving an empty slot. I ran memtest (3 passes) and it didn't show any error.
Then i removed the left module and i put the other in the SAME SLOT. When i ran memtest, it froze on the first pass, showing near 4 errors, thus i deduced that it was defective.
Finally i put the good one on the first slot, and in the other i put my old 512mb module: Ran memtest, 5 passes, no errors.

Now i have 1,5Gb RAM and, at the moment, no BSOD has ocurred. So i just have to wait a few days to consider my problem solved.

I just can't imagine what could have incited my RAM to fail like that. I had used it for too long without any problem. Was it maybe a PSU watt problem? I really didn't know the specs of my PSU when i installed the 9400gt.

thanks a lot

could be anything. after all all machiines wear out sooner or later. Could be PSU, voltage spike, heat, etc.
