Random folder cant delete

I just noticed i randomly had 10 GB less free space on my drive.

its in C:\users\me\appdata\local\temp\rt_mount

and that folder seems to be a windows installation. It has like 60000 files and takes up 10 GB. When i try to delete it it says i need permission and it wont let me. I tried taking ownership but it wont let me. any ideas?

well it's in a hidden folder by default that is ALWAYS in use by the "system" account.

What do you use "RT7Lite" for? Try uninstalling it, then removing it.

I used RT7Lite once to make an unattended install.

I uninstalled it and now how do i delete it?

I would try grabbing ownership of the file like suggested above then deleting it through command prompt

Have you tried deleting it through command prompt?


C:\Users\Your Name>rmdir /?
Removes (deletes) a directory.

RMDIR [/S] [/Q] [drive:]path
RD [/S] [/Q] [drive:]path

/S Removes all directories and files in the specified directory
in addition to the directory itself. Used to remove a directory
tree.

/Q Quiet mode, do not ask if ok to remove a directory tree with /S

ok, the directory you wish to delete has a properties box, can you screen shot the "security" /edit tab for me. I need to see the "edit" portion b/c we need to see if they're "greyed" out. If you can't edit the securities, the permissions are being inherited from a parent directory.


We can remove that inheritance but we need to see where it's coming from first.

Delete it from safe mode.

You have a WIM mounted with DISM.
At an administrative command line type the following:

dism /unmount-wim /mountdir:%temp%\rt_mount /discard


You are GOOD!
