random high cpu usage with explorer.exe

as the subject states, explorer.exe randomly start eating up 50% of my CPU and l believe firefox is the culprit as closing it down usually resolves the issue. when it happens my system usually crawls for a few seconds then when l check the task manager explorer.exe is usually the service eating up 50% of the CPU.. closing firefox and re-opening generally fixes it however once (yesterday) when it happened closing firefox didnt help, in fact when l did suddenly other services like my antivirus started eating CPU instead however thats only happened once so far. l have downloaded and used process explorer to see what sub-service is eating CPU cycles but it shows nothing just that the service is running at 50% with no sub-service showing high usage which is annoying, however like l said it usually happens when running firefox but its started happening more often over the last day or so which has started getting annoying.

Corrupt Profile?

Have you tried using Firefox Safe Mode?

Some Firefox problems are caused by corrupt files in your profile.
If you feel that FF is causing the problem, you could backup up your profile and create a clean profile.
If the problem goes away when you use the new profile, you could copy the important files from your old profile, into your new one.

Remember to create a backup before you start.

Also, have you tried any of these things:

• Scanned for malware/viruses?
• Run "sfc /scannow"?
• Checked if the problem occurs in Safe Mode?

the annoying thing about it is that lve seemingly fixed one issue to experience another.. it only really started when my mkv issue stopped however its started happening a little more since the recent firefox update. my original playback issue (which froze the system for a few seconds once per boot, tho intermittent it would always be the first mkv l opened tho it did happen to specific files) was seemingly resolved by disabling windows media player networking service.. tho not l have this issue lol.. will try redoing my profile.

on another note, lve also created a new firefox profile.. admittedly in the last l had quite a few redundant addons l used it as an excuse to only use the ones l use regularly this time and the ones l cant do without like lastpass and xmarks.

on another note after running this program how come its changed so many settings.. a new icon appeared on desktop which links to my username, it re-enabled the UAC settings.

If you would like you could disable the UAC again . Some people on this forum are against disabling UAC .

l already did, but why did the program re-enable it? at the moment l dont know if anything has changed, tho l wont know that until the issue happens again.

its just like my previous issue, about the most noteable thing lve done is turn off media players networking task and as of yet lve not experienced it again.. however its also likely that the explorer.exe issue might have been fixed by me creating a new firefox profile l wont know until the issue happens again.. thats what l hate about intermittent issues, you can never tell if you fixed them or not lol.

tho lm still curious.. what was the program telling me to delete and where in the log did it note it? because apart from UAE controls turning themselves on again lve no real clue what it did.. and where it stated it in the log.

It deleted that UAC reg to turn it back on . You should be able to locate the file inside the C drive . I do remember if you disable the media network service it will lower your CPU usage .

well whatever the previous freezing issue was lets hope it was just the media player networking service being an ass because it was annoying having to go through one freeze first mkv l opened (or at least it felt that way.. l narrowed it down to specific files).

well it took a couple of weeks, but both issues are annoyingly back.. the high explorer.exe usage with firefox and the damn first mkv problem on boot..

lm looking into other avenues but it doesnt seem to be either plugin related or profile (as its a new profile and the problem occurred when plugins were disabled, tho l do guess the problem mostly happens around a visit to facebook).
