Getting random restarts at any time of the day. Could be 5 minutes after booting up. Could be 5 hours later. I occasionally get blue screens stating IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL among a few others. Will upload dump files.

UPDATE: Scanned with TDSSKiller and nothing was found. Currently doing a full scan with MalwareBytes aswell. Tried to install Windows Defender Offline on a USB but the restarts are becoming more frequent. Since I can't install WDO in safe mode (which I am now forced into using due to the restarts) I'm doing what I can from safe mode.

Scan the system for possible virus infection.

upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

  1. Click on the start button
  2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
  3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
  4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
  5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

MSINFO added, now in the process of virus scanning. Will update. Any more info that you can gain from the MSINFO file would be great.

Update XBox USB wireless controller driver from Software Downloads | Microsoft Hardware. The 2009 version driver is problematic.

Update AHCI 1.2 Device Driver from http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx.

Uninstall AVG using AVG Remover. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.

Free up the startup.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.

Done all of the above and no restarts so far. Thanks for the help. Will wait a few days and see if it worked then will come back and mark as solved if there are no further problems.

Restarts have stopped (or appear to have). Unfortunately, I got another BSOD. Posting the DMP file to see what you can make of it.

It helps to maintain chronology, if needed.

Scan the system for possible virus infection.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Do some USB telated troubleshooting. For the ports, first, uninstall and reinstall the USB ports drivers.

  1. Right click on Computer icon > manage. It will open the computer management window.
  2. Click on "Device Manager" in the left pane, it will list all installed devices up.
  3. Expand "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  4. Click on one item to select, then right click and uninstall.
  5. Do the same for all.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate drivers.
And, Disable USB Selective Suspense too.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

For the devices, first, detach all the USB devices other than the keyboard and mouse.
Then, Update the drivers for them all, including the keyboard and mouse, if any third party drivers are installed for them.

Let us know the results.

Seeing some behavior odd there, enough reason for suspecting a virus. Some drivers are failing who should not, in your situation.

I've scanned for rootkits twice and found nothing. Windows defender offline found a low priority virus that has been dealt with. Will try the rest.

Everything's come back fine. Haven't done the Memtest yet though, so will do that overnight.
If it helps: I've noticed restarts happen more commonly AFTER I exit a game.

It's all come back with nothing. I've jumped ship and installed Windows 8 on a seperate partition. I'm gonna work with that for a while and see if I get any errors. Would a corrupted OS be a potential cause for all of this?

If no problems were found from the tests then, the operating system itself is not corrupted.

I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro x64.
Not getting any resets now but I'm getting complete lock ups where the pc will freeze and not respond. Any sound that is playing will distort.

I've done all the tests that have been offered up and it's all come back with nothing. I even upgraded my RAM just to absolutely make sure that it wasn't that.

Totally at a loss now :(

Can you plug the SATA cables to an unused SATA ports on the motherboard?
From the last MSINFO32 you have updated, there was no driver installed for AMD SATA Controller. Its odd. May be it is a port controller error only? I was not 100% sure, so asked xBlueRobot to help.

Yes, but I think you have installed the chipset drivers already?

In all the dumps you uploaded, there were ataport.sys error present. Initially I thought it might be a virus. But scabs came negative. So, try installing the chipset for one more time.
