Random Shutdowns - No BSOD

Hi,

Just brought a laptop from a friend and been having problems with it. It will randomly power off with no shut down sequence. I looked in event viewer and there is only one critical event which says "Event 41, Kernel-Power".

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

does the laptop get hot before shutdown?

Yes it does get warm, but not hot to the touch around the fan exhaust.
