re: a problem with the desktop icons
This is an Acer Aspire 5749, OS Win7 Home 32bit. Last night when I shut down the laptop and went to bed the desktop was fine. All the icons were were they were supposed to be. When I started the laptop up this morning, the desktop was blank except for the background picture. See the screen capture picture bellow. I can still get at the desktop icons via the Windows Explorer icon in the quick launch bar in the lower left corner. I also had to change the home screen in Firefox back to Kndu 25 (the local tv stations web page). I don't remember what was there when I opened Firefox. Also Bing is set to be the default search engine again in Firefox. I reset the default search engine back to Google. I already tried a cold reboot by letting the laptop sit for a minute or 2 off with the main battery pulled out, no good. I also tried a system restore to an earlier date and time. The system restore couldn't complete the system restore after the reboot. I am out of ideas on what to try next, short of wiping out the partition and reinstalling everything. Any ideas?
