Re-install OS onto Solid State Drive

Hi Everyone,

I want to replace my HDD with a SSD.

My desktop came with windows 7 installed inclusive of a recovery partition.

I don't have OS on disc so:
How can I install OS onto new SSD?
How can I install recovery partition onto new SSD?

Crayclaw mate what I do is to clone the original drive to the new one - simple as long as you use a new drive of the same size or larger ie 500GB to 500GB or 1TB or 320GB to 500GB usually it is awkward to clone form a large drive to a smaller one.

Dont' know what size drive you have and what your budget is but that is the simplest way of doing it.

You can use free software such as Macrium Reflect to do the cloning.

If the ssd is smaller than the hdd, you can still do what you want, it just takes more work since you need to move things around and shrink the partition size on the hdd to get it small enough to fit on the ssd.

Yep exactly what I meant by cloning from large to small I just didn't want to bog down things too much I had to do this very thing when I reinstalled my partners machine and the better drive was smaller.

Ok mate but your choice and in my mind it would be worth spending the extra money (if you are getting a shop to do this) getting a larger SSD.
