RE: Microsoft Word 2010 Save/Save As Dialog Entries

Hi all

I work for a hospital and have been given the task of locking down one of our generic ward accounts, basically I need to prevent staff from saving documents in Microsoft Word.

I've almost accomplished this, my only issue so far is the Word 2010 Save/Save As dialog box. On the left side it includes an entry that reads as follows:

Microsoft Word
-> Templates

This is a location in the AppData folder on the local HDD, I cannot make it Read Only as it stops Word from working properly. There is also no point in re-directing it either as the account will still have access, my question is does anyone know how to remove entries from this dialog box?

Thanks in advance :)

I would try two different things. Hopefully one of them will work for you.

1. The local folder that you cannot make Read Only -- see if you can log in as administrator and take ownership of that folder. If you can do this, then make sure it is set so that all other users have Read Only access to that folder.

2. Change the type of account that they log in with to a "guest" account. This should allow them to use Word, and it should block them from being able to do anything but the most minimal tasks. As I recall, to do this you will right-click on Computer, and then select Manage. There will be an option somewhere to allow you to manage the user accounts. If you right click on an account, you can be very specific as to the type of access the user has. "Guest" will give the account the least amount of privilege and access.

Perhaps doing both of these steps will accomplish your goal. If they log in as Guest, it will be easier to lock them out of whatever you want to lock them out of.
