Re-Naming C Drive

I am upgrading my SSD. I installed W7 from my current C drive. I now want my new SSD to be called the C drive. I went into disk manager, but when I try to change my C drive to G, I get an error message, the parameter is incorrect.

What am I doing wrong?

Do you have other programs installed on your current (old) C drive? Changing the drive letter can cause those programs to not work properly. Exercise caution in changing drive letters for OS/program drives.

I have no need for those programs on my original C drive. This is a fresh install on a new SSD. I can't get the new 1 to be set to a new drive C. I tried it from both SSD's, and also after unplugging the old C drive. Still can't get the new 1 to be seen as C. I can boot, but it won't let me change it to C.

Thrashzone has given you the answer in the link provided, but in short, the system is stopping you from changing the letter. When you installed the OS on SSD C drive, you should have unplugged the old C: drive disk from the PC. Change your boot order in the bios so the SSD boots first. It will become the C: drive then. When you connect the old drive, it will no longer be C: but whatever is available. Check out the link from Thrashzone

seems rather complicated.

my problem is my dvd drive doesn't work, so I can't install W7 from there. I have a flash drive, but when I instruct to load from that, it seems stalled for a long time. nothing happens. so that leaves me with my current SSD having the W& installation software. I need to make a fresh SSD the new, clean main (C) drive.

is there a simple solution to a fresh install?

as for the flash drive, these are the files. are they in the right place for a bootable drive?

autorun.inf
bootmgr
bootmgr.efi
setup.exe
LaunchU3.exe (that's the flash drive's own executable)

then there's the boot folder, sources folder, etc.

I can't unplug the C drive, as the installation software is on it.

W7 Disk Management won't let you change C: since it is in use.

You will need to use Partition Wizard to boot your pc and reassign the drive letters.

Since your DVD drive is not working, you can download Partition Wizard and use a flash drive Boot partition manager from USB Flash disk directly to manage disk partition - Partition Wizard Bootable Flash Drive.
