Re: Win 7 OEM System Builder

OK, so I see decent deals for Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder out there...

When installing this, can I use any Win 7 install disc and use the COA for activation?

OR, is there something special about the "System Builder" part where you have to use that particular disc?

You don't have to use that particular disc, you can use a downloaded ISO or other similar disc as long as it's not one branded by an OEM (Dell, Etc.)

Same version retail should even work, it's the product key that defines what type of install it is.

Those system builder licenses are tied to the first machine they are installed on so you can't swap it to a different computer later if you change your mind.

Yes I also saw Tiger Direct has Win7 Pro OEM for $135, and Home Premium for $89.

I'd use the latest official installer which is provided in the Clean Reinstall tutorial in my signature pic below, which also compiles everything that works best to get and keep a perfect install.

OK, thanks guys!

That's what I was thinking, but it's always good to swing by the Win 7 board to make sure.
