Re: Would TWC's Newer "Everyday Low Price" Internet Plan Work?

Hello. I have a question to ask you.

Time Warner Cable (TWC) has their latest "Everyday Low Price" for $14.99 for "Download up to 2Mbps" and with "Upload up to 1Mbps". I am not sure if this pricing schedule is particular to my area or nationwide. I have Time Warner Cable Internet with Turbo (Download "up to 20 Mbps" and "Upload up to 2 Mbps.) presently. I would like to save some money. I am paying approximately 4 times the "everyday low price". I may be wrong, but I am wondering if a slower speed would be adequate based on my needs -- I will mention in a minute. I have had a year ago TWC's 3 Down/1 Up Mbps in the past without issues. I would say maybe one or two 10 second disconnects in a 4 -6 hour usage from the live streaming Internet radio, but it maybe THEIR server that did the disconnecting. The Internet live streaming readio console is 10/100 Mbps Ethernet capable and not gigabit capable. ONLY use a desktop computer and an Internet live streaming radio console that actively uses the Internet for several years. The hardware is a gigabit router (Netgear WNDR3700) and a cable modem (Motorola SB6141). No wireless Wi-Fi , everything is all hardwired with Ethernet cables. I do not do much, if any live streaming with my desktop computer. The most demanding would be YouTube videos on my desktop. I have no issues right now with my 20 Down/2 Up Mbps (Of course, not.) with my simple Internet setup.

So my question, would 2 Down/1 Up Mbps work for me or would I have issues, especially with the Internet live streaming radio console? Your facts or thoughts about this and if the "Everyday Low Price" would work for me?

Please reply.

Thank you!

Not sure what "up to" means in your case. I am in a different country, but interested to see what your experience is.

I get appalling upload about 100kb/s . I don't do much of that luckily.

Comcast is in the middle of acquiring Time Warner. If that goes through, who knows what you will get, given all the negativity of Comcast.

However, after having 20Mb service, going back to 2Mb will probably be a major shock.

Along with the potential (probable) Comcast/Time Warner, I'm not sure what is going to happen to me. I have Brighthouse which is affiliated with Time Warner and don't know what if any affect the merger is going to have on Brighthouse. Actually, I think what I have is really Time Warner, just managed by Brighthouse, as I have RoadRunner which is really Time Warner's and when Time Warner has a subscription issue with a particular channel or network, such as ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox it also affects Brighthouse.

@ SWI2:

Hello. Nice to meet you.

What is meant by "up to" I strongly believe is a way for TWC to protect themselves if the maximum speed is not achieved to the exact figure. So if a customer gets 19.8 Mbps say for a few days when they should be getting 20.0 Mpbs, TWC can always come back on the customer and say that 'you got up to 20.0 Mpbs. It is a legal way for them to cover their butts if someone ever were to complain they are not getting THEE TOP speed! Similarly when you see a sale sign in a store saying 'up to 50% off' that does not mean all items in that designed area of the store are all 50% off. There may be a few, but not all items.

Another thing to remember is 2MB will be the top speed you will get .. But you will not always get that...

@ fireberd:

Hello. Nice to meet you too.

Yes, I am totally aware and I will be frank regardless of your side, against the merger of these two giants!

I have signed legal petitions against the merger at the federal and state levels. I have read from experts on this topic online and totally agree with their proposed outcomes if the merger happens. Everything will be worse than it is now - guaranteed! Competition is actually healthy and strengthens a business and the merger will end any newer advances in technologies. I wish MORE high speed ISPs would come into areas and increase competition.

Anyways, thanks for your input. So you think I would have issues? Probably with that Internet streaming radio I love listening to with 2/1 speed.

Thanks!

LOL. I know what "up to " means. I don't know what it means in your case.

For example, I only ever get a fraction of the "up to " that was advertised. Maybe that is down to the limiting from my local exchange. Hard to tell.

Do you usually get close to it - in your area, and with your supplier?

Just curious.

I wish MORE high speed ISPs would come into areas and increase competition.

Glad to see there are a few who understand the importance of competition. I was beginning to feel like a lone voice in the wilderness.

@ maxie & all:

Hello. Nice to meet you too.

Yes, you are right. Not always 2 MB top speed. I guess I am trying to find something less that I can handle with my ISP. Here is the URL for TWC's Internet services and pricing for me: Cable Internet Plans & Package Deals, Make Time Warner Cable Your Internet Service Provider!

Note: These prices are for "NEW" customers (not me) -- many of the first 12 months promo plans. So the prices you see here are not applicable to me -- they are $10-20 higher for me if it states as a promo plan. The "Everyday Low Price" is fixed at the $14.99 per month.

As you can see between the "Everyday Low Price" and "Basic" Internet levels -- there is a huge price gap.
Personally, I want to go as a low price as I can and still have Internet Radio (10/100 Ethernet) work without any issues like no signal drops. May I ask you, what speed from TWC would you suggest or recommend? Your thoughts?

Please reply.

Thanks!

I understand you want to cut the cost .. Going from 20Mb to 2 MB i think would be to drastic you would sure miss the speed .. I know this from experience as i used to have the slowest connection possible and could never go back to that .. So in order to cut the cost i would tend to go with the Standard package i know it would not save you a lot .. But a little is better than nothing and the speed reduction should not be to drastic ..

I would call Time Warner and see what they will offer. About two years ago, I called Brighthouse as I thought my package (cable/phone/internet) was getting too high. They offered me a package at a reduced price that gave me the TV service I wanted (including digital HD), plus phone and Internet at a higher speed than I curently had. I wound up saving $40 per month.

@ all:

Hello again. I am going to take both maxie's and fireberd's recommendations in combination and see if I can get a better rate with the standard package. It sounds the best I can do. I guess from all of you indicated that with a 2/1 speed I would experience issues. Thanks for your honesty!

Thanks for your help! :-)

...also to all of you, keep up the good fight and pressure against the TWC & Comcast merger!
