ReadyBoost & SSD drives?

i have a Antec dark fleet85 (the big one) case with an hot swap 2.5" drive bay on the top.........

...if i plug in a 2.5" SSD flash drive, say about 160 GB, think it will give me a massive boost if i dedicate it to ReadyBoost??

for the record i already have tried 2 x 16GB SD camera cards and dedicated them to ReadyBoost.....i have noticed a massive difference when playing games......

thoughts?

Are your current specs accurate? If so, you will probably see the best performance increase by using an SDD as your OS drive and keeping all your personal files on the HDDs.

current specs are up to date. I do know switching to a SSD drive as my primary OS drive will speed things up, but i was also wondering if i dedicated a second SSD drive to ReadyBoost if it would speed up even more

Personally, I doubt it. I actually doubt it would even let you.

i already tried to use a WD 500 GB external USb hard drive but it would not let me use it for ReadyBoost.....was hoping the SSD drives would work.......

with Windows 7 its moot whether readyboost is even worth it.

If you move your OS to the SSD drive the performance gain will be so much better you WON'T need readyboost in anycase.

If you don't like the idea of using an SSD drive for your OS then CERTAINLY use it as the paging file and for Photoshop scratch areas if you have Photoshop.

For me If I could afford the luxury of an SSD driive I'd stick the OS on it.

I agree. Win7 and apps on a SSD, and all personal DATA on spinning drives will make a huge difference.

As a matter of fact you can use SSD for readyboost. If you have a cheap one lying around you can configure it as one and get some amount of performance boost by moving your page file there and any data files you may be working on currently (say source code, if you are a developer or video).

But really, readyBoost is a relic from the days when RAM was still a precious commodity. These days, memory is dirtcheap, just use the ssd as system drive and upgrade your ram to max. I noted you have 4gb ram only, though you are using the 16gb cards also.
