Ok, Im desperate.
I have tried to install the updated Realtek HD Audio drivers, from different sites, even from Gigabyte (my motherboard) and everytime I install, it fails about halfway through the install. Every time I reboot, it automatically calls the setupAR file and fails again (sound still works thankfully).

So I stopped and disabled setupAR process (I figured it was linked to Realtek) and it wouldnt reinstall and then sound wouldnt work.

Got sound going again using the Win 7 troubleshooter but I still get the Realtek Installshield on startup - that fails everytime. Anyone ablt to tell me how to stop this happening?

Thanks heaps.

Ah, I see what's going on here, you have one of those realtek/azalia audio set ups.
That is a tricky one as I don't think the download directly from realtek will work for both.

In your bios there should be the ability to make sure one or the other is in charge.
How is that currently set?

Also open playback devices and disable any of them you are not actively using that appear there.

Thanks for the tip. Disabled the azila codec in the bios. It disabled all sound on startup, and the installshield still started and failed as per before.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Have you tired manually installing the drivers for the device in the device manager?

when you downloaded the Driver files it would have been in a folder with the Info documents, if you point the installation process to the driver folder it should manually add them.

Thanks for the tips. I did the manual update and they seem to be working fine. It seems that it is install shield that is the problem. It seems that it trys to confirm successful installation after a restart but gets tripped up and fails. Is there any way to stop install shield doing this? I think its function is to install the sound card but because there was some flag not tripped when the driver installed, it thinks there is an error and fails.

This is really frustrating.

Anyone with any other ideas?
Thanks

Have you tried this method of installing the driver? I use this all the time for installing the Realtek Audio driver, and it has never let me down. Works in Vista, Windows 7, and the current leaked versions of Windows 8.

Solved?

Not sure. I deleted the setupafterrebootservice.exe in the realtek folder. I can now boot up without a failure. And sound works. Perhaps it was this simple all along......

Hmmmm
