Is this a recent problem or has it always done this? If a recent problem, did you install anything?

Are you using the Dell supplied RealTek driver? Product Support | Dell US

You can also try uninstalling the RealTek sound AND the Drivers by going to the Device Manager, in the Sound section, RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek to highlight it and then LEFT click Uninstall. Also, check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC and after Windows is finished starting, it will probably install the generic HD Audio Codec. If the sound works with the generic HD Audio Codec, then Install the Dell supplied driver. This should clear up the problem.
