On an HP Pavilion E9220Y.

Problem:
The gigabit ethernet card, Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, is not responsive after disabling then enabling the card, or after unplugging the ethernet cable then plugging it back in. However, from a cold boot the ethernet card works fine.

The card has the latest drivers.

Thankfully the wireless adapter is fully functional, but would love to get the ethernet card to function correctly too.

Any ideas?

Have you tried re-installing the driver?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, have tried reinstalling the driver (and older drivers) a couple of times, but it doesn't fix the problem.

This morning, thinking that the problem could've been caused by some power-saving settings in Windows, changed the settings to maximum performance, but that didn't solve the problem either.

I am having the same problem on a custom build. Every time I restart my PC the network device needs to be disabled and then enabled in order for me to get internet access. I've tried a bunch of things just like ceyran, changing power saving settings, clean installs, and downloading different drivers.

Nothing seems to work and I was thinking this may be a Windows 7 compatibility issue :sarc: ??? I don't really know what else to try and any help would be very appreciated.

Actually, I'm almost positive that my problem is caused by a faulty motherboard. Good luck with your problem, Newbi.

Well that's not good news for me Ceyran, my motherboard has been giving me problems since the very beginning ... I was forced to flash my bios to get it to recognize my CPU.

I hope that I don't have the same issue ...

If anyone out there has an answer to the Realtek device problem I would greatly appreciate the help.

Disable then Enable

I have to say that I'm having the same problem as Newbie. This is a brand new computer, running Windows 7 Home Professional 64 bit. Our modem is a Qwest (read Actiontec) M1000 DSL with the wireless adapter. Our laptop can connect remotely with no problems, so I'm pretty sure it isn't the Modem configuration. However, everytime we start (or restart) our main computer, we have to disable the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, the re-enable it in order to get an internet connection. It appears that our drives for the Realtek are up-to-date. Anybody got any ideas here?

Same issue

Got a new "kit" computer with a Biostar motherboard. Installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. The Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller does not connect to the network - ever. Sure hope someone has some ideas here. Maybe change some of the "advanced" properties for the device?

Sure have - many times. I've also tried setting a static IP address, leaving it with DHCP, uninstalling and re-installing the drivers, updating the drivers from the MoBo manufacturer's site (Biostar) and from the controller manufacturer's website (Realtek). There are a number of "advanced" properties that can be set in Device Manager and I really haven't fiddled with any of those. I've moved the bios setting for the network interface from "auto detect" to "enabled." None of this has worked. The rest of the machine seems to be workiing fine, but these days you cannot get far without an internet connection.

I was searching around and this seems to fix the problem of the unidentified network starting up at system start up sometimes, which causes the non internet connection problems.

Click on the Start button then run. Then type cmd, then msconfig. Click on the Service tab and uncheck the ##Id_String1.6844f930_1628_4223_b5cc_5bb94b879762## string. After restarting it should be fixed. I deleted the other post, because this seems to be a fix for now.

Dumb me

Well, my problem is fixed... And I feel quite dumb. Somebody (not me, I guarantee you) unplugged the switch I had been using for a number of seldom-used peripherals and plugged my existing computer directly into the jack that goes to the router. I had plugged my new computer into that switch, never expecting it to be unplugged. When I discovered this, my face turned red - and I routed traffice properly. All's well now.

I just finished building my new computer yesterday, and I can't seem to connect to the internet, either. I'm using a P67A-C43 (B3) Motherboard. Device manager is telling me that the Realtek Network Adapter is working, but obviously, it's not. I can only connect using an ethernet cable. Kenard's post isn't helping, because I don't even have the ##Id_String item in the Service Tab. Does anyone else know another fix?

I was having the same issue. I downloaded newest version of the driver 7.58.411.2012.

Download from Realtek

So far connection hasn't dropped. I had put a static ip in for trouble shooting. changed it back to dynamic now and it seems stable.

Link address has changed...

@mrfixalot: Thank you very much! I went to the ASUS website and downloaded their latest driver. It was version 6.0... My wife's computer kept losing the Internet connection. I knew it was the driver because the rest of our computers (mine and my two kids) always had a perfect connection. I googled and found this website with your answer. However, the link was broken. I dropped the "tw" off the link and it worked! Apparently, RealTek has changed its domain name to lose the "tw" off its address. Here is the current link where I downloaded the 7.58.411.2012 driver (which works! Yea!). :D

Realtek

Thanks again mrfixalot!
