Ok, I have googled this error and see this is common. Hopefully, I have missed something simple. I replaced my hard drive and installed the complete version of Windows 7 Home Premium. All worked great, till the next day when I turned the PC back on. I get the error message: reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in select boot device. If I restart and hold F2 and go in Bios, exiting with or without changes will allow the PC to boot into windows, however, once I power down and restart, I get the same error message. I have tried booting with the Window 7 disk, perform repair and even reloaded the entire OS again. Same issue. I arrange the boot order, found that windows recognized my hard drive, etc...all the things listed as possible fixes for this error. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. The new hard drive is a sata, 1 tb. It replaced the maxtor diamond 9, 260gig. Very frustrated here and it doesn't help that I have limted PC knowledge beyond what I have tried.

Most likely you need to go back into the BIOS and set the HDD priority so your OS drive is listed as number one and then set your boot order. After this select save and exit.

Got it...good input. I'll check the cables this afternoon and the HDD priority. Will let you know. Thanks for the quick responses.

theog, thanks, I checked the cables. I also found instructions on how to install a new Sata and its supposed to be in Sata port 1 to be the master. That did it, moved from Sata port 3 to 1. Thanks for the help.

The computer was working fine and I turned it off at night. In the morning I was getting this same insert boot media error. It is an Asus k59ij I purchased from bestbuy. I contacted asus who advised the HD must be bad. I have removed the HD and reformatted it using another computer and tested it for errors I. The Disk Management tool in xp. The format was 100% successful and the file system is NTFS and healthy. So now I think the HD is ok. The HD, of course has no OS on it and after in inserted it to the laptop again, I continue to see the same error. I have changed the boot order to cd/DVD to try installing a new OS but it leads me to the same error. I'm not sure what Cale's may have disconnected but from looking at the computer interior, the cables seem secure. Any directions provided are much appreciated. Thank you.
