Does this time count while it's waiting for us to type in the password?

I'm thinking of removing the pword anyways, so I MIGHT be able to lower it...

Yes it does.
I have the same board on another PC and the POST time is quite long.
EDIT: Mine is the ASUS M4A88T-M, slowness must be a quirk of the 880G chipset.

are you sure it is DDR2?

I have been told that only DDR3 runs with Core i processors' motherboards.
