ReBoot Time

Status
Not open for further replies.
what's normal?
vague i know but this pc is fairly new to me and although i'd like to think i know the ins and outs regarding this stuff i'm quickly realizing there's alot to learn.

My system specs are...

Buxxy, what is the problem you are facing?
Long reboot time?

post the timing here. from the specs, hard disk might be the only bottleneck there, rest of the hardware seems good enough to me.

Thanks.

Back in the good 'ole days [Yes, I'm OLD] I had an 8088 [10.54Mhz] with a 2 MEG RAMDrive. Upon boot, an archive would uncompress to the RAMDrive, run everything, clear the drive, then uncompress another archive to it, and the that folder was the first one in my PATH.

It LITERALLY took over 5 minutes to boot to a DOS 6 prompt! BUT, Norton Commander would load visually faster than my friends 386-33!

Is this good?

OK....I FINALLY got this machine booting OK.

Considering my Desktop folder is sitting on a server, with a 10/100 connection, is that bad?

Sorry Bill, I missed your post, yeah 18 seconds to me is "wow" too!

I am on my other PC right now, in the lounge, I ran the restart test on that and it took 99 seconds, it seemed like forever lol.

On my previous set up (2600K and Asus P67 Evo) the restart time with the same SSD was 35 seconds, the new board takes considerably less time to post and that appears to be the biggest factor in the 18 second time.

Paul.
