Questions are concerning the computer i built for my son about 13 months ago. He's running OEM Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on an Asus Z87-A with 8GB RAM.

Just in the last two weeks he has starting receiving the "Windows not genuine" popup. Control Panel>System shows Windows is activated and genuine, as it has been since install.

Here is the output from the MGADiag Tool.

The installed license is a Volume MAK license - not usually available to the public. From where did you acquire this license?

This could be caused by a number of things -
please first check whether KB3004394 is installed. If it is, please install KB3024777 to remove the earlier update, then reboot twice, and post a new MGADiag report

If 4394 is not installed, then it may be a corrupted SoftwareDistribution folder...

Open an Elevated Command Prompt
Run the following commands

NET STOP WUAUSERV
REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
NET START WUAUSERV

reboot twice, and run another MGADiag report - post the results.

Thanks for the quick reply.

To answer the first question; I acquired the Windows license and some of the computer hardware through a local computer education vendor that sells systems along with training courses. I bought the pc for my son while taking some intro .net programming.

I'll check into the items you mentioned and will report back.

KB3004394 installed successfully on 9Dec2014. KB3024777 tried to install on the 12th but failed. It has tried to install almost daily (probably with each shutdown since then) but each attempt has failed.

I tried to manually install it by downloading the patch from Microsoft Download Center, but it failed as well.

One update was successfully installed between 4394 and 4777 - KB2952664.

Should I try to uninstall KB3004394?

Yep - if/when the uninstall fails, please post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file, and the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log file (compressed please - it tends to get rather large!)

KB3004394 appeared to uninstall successfully. No errors were reported. It asked that I reboot, and processed updates on restart. Attached are my windowsupdate log and CBS log in a zipped archive.

They look fine - how is the system behaving now?
Are you still getting non-genuine notifications?
If so...

What AV are you using?
Try this...

Please disable real-time scanning/protection and reboot

If the notification has disappeared, re-enable real-time scanning and reboot again

If the notification is still present, first check whether the real-time scanning is still switched off.

If so, then re-enable it and post the result.

If it's turned itself back on then tell me or try again using a different disable option.

Post back with the results
