In the start menu, you get a list of your programmes and an arrow pointing to recently opened files that have been opened by that programme ( not trying to point out the obvious lol )

but I have noticed that even after you delete the files that are listed, they stay listed,

would it not be better and a little less annoying if only files that have not been deleted are listed ?

anyone know if this is possible ?

thank you

Sure....but how is it suppose to know they are deleted? Should it fire off several I/O operations every time you open the recent items menu? I think not, that would be a costly mistake. Just to be clear, I/O operations are by far one of the slowest operations a computer will do.

to be honest, I am a web developer and have no idea about the running of windows or any other operating system, but I was just curious as to the possibility of anything like this existing in the form of a hack or other means

As far as I know there is no way other then to clean it out once in a while. Cleaning it out is pretty easy by going into the taskbar properties, start menu tab, then uncheck "Store and display recently opened items...", click apply, recheck option...OK. Clears it all away.

But yeah you don't want it firing off I/O operations, sitting there for a minute waiting for it to display is no fun.
