I am using Kaspersky and have never had a single problem with any blocking except if it has asked me to block something, I would suggest you uninstall it completely and then reinstall it using the default setting which work great.

I use Avast with Microsoft Firewall and Windows 7 Firewall Control. Works fine for me. Windows 7 Firewall Control warns me if something tries to connect to the internet, and you can enable the program and it will never pop up again.

I have been using MSE and it seems to perform with a low footprint. Am still a fan of Avira, although the free version has the obnoxious nag screen.
