Hi Guys,

I was trying to install windows 7 on my windows 8 laptop (UEFI) and when it didnt allow me to install win7 on partitioned drive I followed YouTube video foolishly and fired diskpart - clean command. everything gone after that. Luckily I didnt do anything after that and referred one of the thread here on sevenforums. followed some of the suggestions give by Kaktussoft and was able to see all the partitions using partition wizard and it showed me correct list of partitions including recovery partitions. I used partition wizard to restore them but I see the bootable drive letters are not restored. Now that when I try to boot the laptop doesnt boot.

How do I fix this? does it need to rebuild the MBR ? if yes how?

Thanks for the link ICit2lol, I followed the instructions using usb win7 bootable but somehow it doesnt detect the windows installation because its windows 8. So these instruction did not work for me. something to do with windows 8 BCD on UEFI I guess.

I just joined but was reading some of the threads last couple of days and thats where I read Kaktussoft's postings.

I could not find the answer for my problem so I decided to open a new thread.

Hello and welcome rgirlish this might help if that is all you want.

Just by the way have you just joined or read that answer by Kaktussoft as he has been in in here for a while - just curious.

After restoring the volumes its giving me this error

Your PC needs to be repaired.

File:\Windows\System32\winload.efi
Error code: 0xc0000225

I found following instructions and I followed them, but it doesnt seems to work :(

-----------------------------------------------------
Diskpart
List Volume
Select Volume=2 (change the "2" with a number that shows the ESP value.
Assign letter=Z
Exit
Bcdboot C:\windows /s Z: /f UEFI (change the C: with the drive letler of your OS)
4. Restart your computer.

Sorry late reply rgirlish have been busy with the tax man etc :(

Now that looks to be a significant problem you have there see this https://neosmart.net/wiki/0xc0000225/ if you can follow this it may help and what we need to know is have you backed up all your data because if worst comes to the worst then you may have to reinstall. As a general rule I image my machines with Macrium the main machines once every two or three weeks - takes a few minutes but worth it for times like this.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73828-imaging-free-macrium.html

But if you have not then there are other ways of retrieving the data by not using Windows ie a Ubuntu boot disk. But first let us know the situation with the data.

Okay, So I followed the instructions on the link you have provided in last message ICit2lol, After that I restarted and it still did not boot in.

Then I learnt that one can rebuild MBR using partition wizard tool , I tried that and rebooted, it didn't boot up.

I then reboot the system using USB win 8 recovery disk and fired following commands that I mentioned in my previous message.
-----------------------------------------------------
Diskpart
List Volume
Select Volume=2 (change the "2" with a number that shows the ESP value.
Assign letter=Z
Exit
Bcdboot C:\windows /s Z: /f UEFI (change the C: with the drive letler of your OS)
4. Restart your computer.
------------------------------------------------------------------

checked bcdedit and saw windows entry init but system still could not boot and gave me the same 0xc0000225 error.

but meanwhile I was going through the BIOS settings and I noticed that there are two options in the boot order. I changed the boot order from windows boot manager to the option that is showing HDD name and bingo the system booted into my previous state.

Now I am not sure which one of MBR rebuild from above worked because obviously my boot order was wrong and thats why system was not booting into windows.

Now here is my problem
with Fast BIOS disabled , Secure boot disabled, OS mode is CSM and UEFI and HDD in boot order system perfectly boots into the windows 8.1

But then it does not boot with Fast BIOS enabled, Secure boot enable, OS mode UEFI and default windows boot manager in boot order for UEFI.

Because of this I am unable to go back to the factory build state.

Any suggestions or help would appreciated.

Ok rgirlish seems like most of the searches I have done up typically with results like this https://social.technet.microsoft.co...2c/error-code-0xc0000225?forum=w8itproinstall
I would guess it is as in that link the files are really corrupted and I can only think that if it were me I would wipe that partition (you can do that with Partition Wizard) and reinstall the 7.

So I have it right you are doing a dual boot?? or have I got that part wrong??

1st take a backup of disk using Macrium Reflect rescue CD (free). Then Try windows restore or try and restore MBR using Mcrium or minitol partition wizard. Once you have backup of disk image you can reset the windows and restore backup.
