Recovery (D) is full.

Hello,

From a few weeks ago I have been getting a warning in my taskbar telling me my Recovery Drive is too full. Not sure how this happened or how to solve this problem.

2 images below. First picture shows the Recovery Drive with warning red bar and showing only 31MB out of 7.8GB is free. Second picture shows contents of Drive (nothing in there adds up to 7GB by the way).

Help appreciated. Thanks

Hello JSN, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might double check to make sure that System Protection is turned off for the D: drive. Turning it off will remove any saved restore points on that drive to see if that may be it.

Lets see if the System restore is enabled on the D drive .

Right mouse click on Computer either on the Desktop or inside the Start Menu and select properties. Then click on System Protection

If the D drive has Enabled . Click on the D drive click on Configure then choose Turn off system protection and click Apply. Click on the Yes button that you're sure you want to turn off System Protection to that drive.

Restart the PC

Good catch Keith.

No it shouldn't. Moving the page file back to C: will free up the space it's currently using.

Having had some Compaqs, the recovery partition is only to restore the machine to out of the box (OOBE) condition.
If you right click the files in the red box, then properties of each, I suspect you will find several gigabytes of data.

Looking at the dates on those Gary they are all old. In fact they pre-date Windows 7.

You have sharp eyes Keith. Maybe recovery for Vista.
I suspect then the whole of D:\ can be deleted and C:\ expanded then.

Unless the OP ever wants to restore to factory that would be my choice too.

OK so from reading the recent replies I assume I have made a mistake and am not even on the right OS for these forums? Sorry for my feebleness.

Turns out I'm using the awful Vista OS. No wonder I'm having problems with it.

That's fine.

You would still want to move your page file back to C:, and check to make sure that system protection is turned off for D:. The tutorials will be the same in Vista as well.

Thanks, well I checked the system protection and it is turned off, so everything is okay there.

I had a look at the link provided regarding moving the page file, got to a certain point and not sure what to do from here. I took a picture of where I get up to, so any idea where to go from here?

1. Uncheck Automatically manage paging file for all drives.
2. Secect C drive and check the System manages size radio button
3. Select D and check No paging file.

You will then be asked to reboot.

Seems like my computer is refusing to oblige here.

1) I've managed to change the Recovery drive from "System managed size" to "No paging file" so that correctly states "None" now.

However, it's refusing to change the C drive to "System managed". I select the C drive, click "System managed size", then 'Set'. It asks me then to reboot which I do, but when I when I have a look after the reboot it just says "None" next to everything.

2) I had a look at contents of the Recovery drive and pagefile.sys is still in there.
