I'm sorry for the long wait, had quite a busy day today because had to work Sat all day 'again'.

Anyway, I see that a few smart SF Posters are already giving their feedback and they are all quite helpful. The Thread is quite long for me to read everything so I might have overlooked some of them. Please correct me if I'm wrong here... Your issue seems to be wired and wireless. You may try these suggestions if you have not done it yet.

- Assign Static IP's on both of your LAN and WLAN settings.
How to Assign a Static IP Address in XP, Vista, or Windows 7

- Verify that all your Network Services are Started from Control Panel and its Dependencies.
Click on the Start button and type services.msc press enter.
• COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
• Computer Browser
• DHCP Client
• DNS Client
• Network Connections
• Network Location Awareness
• Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
• Server
• TCP/IP Netbios helper
• WLAN AutoConfig
• Workstation

This is for now, we don't want to confuse you. Please be patient and try not to overlook any of our posts.

PS....If there's anything that's unclear to you regarding all our suggestions please do not hesitate to inform us.

Update: I called my ISP and talked to a second technical support guy. He changed my password, he changed the name of my network 4 different times. The pc never reconnected. He then talked me through my drivers because he wanted to ascertain that I had the correct drivers installed and I informed him that I had installed two different wireless drivers, because I was under the impression if one didn't work then the other would. He of course informed me that whenever you install the second driver it automatically overrides (overwrites?) the first one. So, I tried each one separately (after uninstalling them) and that didn't make a difference either. Finally, he asked me to restart the pc and suddenly Windows prompted me to leave the pc powered on so that it can finish downloading updates. The tech support guy was nice enough to wait with me on the phone through all 153 updates. Afterwards, I restarted the pc and still no connection. He even tried unencrypting the modem/router so that I didn't need a password and it still wouldn't connect. And finally he asked me to connect ethernet directly to my pc and restart pc then go into the command prompt and enter ipconfig. He asked me to read to him the IP address, which is:

169.254.21.218

According to him, any IP address which begins with 169 is a fictional IP address. In other words, he was trying to say the pc itself is just making up ip addresses, which according to him means something very severe is going on and that I should take my pc to a computer repair shop. Initially, he thought I should buy a new usb adapter to replace this old school screw-in adapter that I currently have, because it has included with it its own wireless drivers, but after reading to him this so-called fiction IP address he said I shouldn't even bother.

If Device Manager tells you a driver is the latest then you are online!

It had to connect to Window Updates to tell you that!

Open Internet Explorer to check the web.

I don't mean this rude in any way, but where do you get that idea? Disconnect from the internet and run a driver update check, it will tell you that you have the latest even if you don't. This alone does not mean they are online.

Yeah I realized that after I thought about it out on the beach. Wondered if I could make it back to edit post before someone corrected it. Not easy with all the smarter guys around.

It sounds as though you're runnning up again Automatic private IP address isues.

There's an easy workaround - hard code an ip address, gateway, and DNS servers. Let me gather some pictures to post.

This may be useful if you have a small network that does not have a DHCP server. With automatic private IP addressing, you can assign a unique IP address to your network adapter by using the LINKLOCAL network IP address space. LINKLOCAL network addresses always begin with the numbers 169.254 and have the following format:
169.254.X.X
LINKLOCAL network addresses are used only for private, internal addresses, and are not valid for host computers that are "visible" on the Internet. They cannot be used for computers that are linked by Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).

After the network adapter is assigned a LINKLOCAL network IP address, computers can communicate (by using TCP/IP) with any other computer on the network that uses the same addressing.

Hello, 2xg. Thank you for joining us. By assign static IP's I assume that is another way of saying I should set up a hardcoded IP address? Should I do this before bothering about : "- Verify that all your Network Services are Started from Control Panel and its Dependencies."

I opened Services. Did you want me to simply look and see if those Com + event etc. are listed or am I looking for other details within 'Services' ???

My main confusion with the workaround tutorial you shared was not knowing which numbers to enter. Were you suggesting I use the numbers in the image, or?

I'm back arayfo1....and ALL.

Check all the Network Services first if they are all started before assigning Manual or Static IPs, sorry if I wasn't very clear.

We'll guide you with assigning the Static IP if needed.
FYI.... I'll be around for a little while now and won't be going nowhere, done running around and I'm resting.

Edit: Is there any ipconfig/all output posted here somewhere? I can't find it.
