Refresh rates on LCD monitors

I just picked up a new monitor. It's a Samsung 2033 SW. 1600 X 900 with a 5Ms response time. It's only giving me one option. 60 hertz. Is this normal?

My other one is very similar Samsung 932 BW+. 1400 X900 at 2Ms response. It's gives me a choice of 60 or 75 hertz.

I don't think it has anything to do with the video card or driver. Perhaps the driver for the monitor itself....I have the latest one from MS update for both monitors.

Also, how much does this matter. I have been told to go with the higher rate if possible.

Do any of you know if this is the norm? Does it have to do with the difference in response time?

Okay Sassa, I guess so. Thanks. Strange how my other one has the 75 setting. Guess it's just a different model and that's the way it is. From what I am reading....it sounds like it's capable of 75 hertz but I don't want to "force it".

I'll change the other one to 60 and see how it goes. Thanks.

Not need yo, 75hz is default refresh rate for that monitor on that resolution.
Try lower resolution on new monitor, then you should have 75 hz option

I will try that. I already did but it left black strips down the sides of the new one and didn't give the option. Thanks for the idea.

I will try some different settings tomorrow when I have time. I am also reading a lot of stuff about LCD monitors not really having the need for refresh rates like CRTs. They are much different.

I will have to do some research but though I could find an expert.

Samsung LCD Monitors

The optimal refresh rate (also called the Vertical Frequency) for all Samsung LCD monitors is 60 Hz, regardless of resolution.

If you need to set your monitor to other settings, there is a table of preset timing modes in your user's manual that lists all compatible display modes, horizontal frequency values, and refresh rates. If you don't have your user's manual handy, click here to view the manual on line.

You're welcome, just passing my own experience...
I've seen somewhere that 60hz on LCD is equal to 100hz on CRT, but I'm not shure...:sarc:

I got a 19" iiYama LCD that ran great on 75hz on Vista or XP but in Windows 7 when i switch to 75hz i get little red dots allover the screen (games to) . Must be a driver problem. 9.5 Catalyst didnt fix it right. I had to manually change some games to use 60hz like Warcraft 3 who used max i got that being 75hz .

Now i roll with 60hz only, i`ll keep checking the 75hz maybe 1 day it will go away ... we need better win7 drivers
