Solved Regular system restore

Hi

I've read that Windows 7 creates regularly restore points, but in the list I only can find the ones when something new has been installed. So I'd like to know where I could set up that Windows creates a restore point for example every day.

FWIW, I run my backup each day at 3:00am. My PC creates a restore point at 3:00am each day when the backup runs. Looking at my list of restore points, on the days where my backup didn't run there are no restore points either...

Make sure the yellow boxed is checked when looking for restore point son this page. Yellow circled in the picture.

Hi 1x4,

You can use Task Scheduler to schedule regular system restoration.

Click Start Orb, and type task in the search box, then select Task Scheduler. Now maximise the options that I have shown underlined/circled in red, in the image below.

I do a data only backup every day which creates a Restore Point and an image once a week.

Interesting. What then is wrong with my system that it creates a restore point every day at 3:00 am when my backup runs? If Windows 7 is not meant to do that, how then could I turn that off?

I'm not sure about a Restore point but I will check.

Got to Device Manager> System> then System protection to get to window on the left in picture below.
As you can see in the window on the left when you click 1-Configure you open the window on the right with no time or date selection. Click the #2 on left you make one manually.

That's just it. A backup creates a RP. If you watch the progress of a backup, fairly early on you will see. "Creating a shadow copy". That's the RP.

I do not create a system image with my backups. I create one when I get my PC the way I want it, and that is my base restore point should I need it. My daily backup is data only, and my emails.

In System restore, the restore points created when the backup runs are called "Automatic restore point". And they are created every day when my backup runs.

So, exactly what kado897 said is right. So wouldn't that solve your problem? ie. untick the system image backup option?

Yes, Hopalong, I checked this box, I made it again and now there are really two new restore points made by the system, without a special reason (like installations or else) I guess.

Golden, I'll give try it with the task scheduler.

And IF you use MSSE, it will create a Restore Point each time you update, which I do daily, sometimes twice a day as it updates in the early morning and again in the early afternoon.

Windows creates sometimes restore points by its own, and I don't notice any lag or else. So if I set that everytime I log off (or log on) Windows creates a restore point, how much time does this take? Just want to know
