remap key?

I got one of these netbooks with windows 7 ultimate 64bit. the keyboard is of course extremely poorly laid out. Does anyone know if theres a way to remap a key? I'd like to take a specific key like the backslash (in the worst possible place) and make it be a shift now. anything like that?

Not 100% sure you can remap the Shift key though.

SharpKeys works great, even with Application Menu key

I just got a new MacBook Air and loaded Win7 on it using Boot Camp. This site really helped out and SharpKeys worked great.

Just FYI, I used it to map the right Option (Alt) key to the Windows 7 Application menu (context menu, etc) key. I noticed someone said they weren't able to do that. I just mapped the "Special right Alt key" to the "Special Applications" function and it did the trick.

I recommend getting the new AutoHotkey_L version. AHK has its quirks. But some things, such as remapping keys, are very easy to do. Most of the time you make a "hotkey app" that sits in the system tray. You can use any key to trigger something. Either a part of the script or just call a 3rd party external program. For example I have it set up to call SysInternals sync.exe every time I press F10 Function key, to flush the data to disk on all my hard drives. But you can have it do just about anything.

It's free if sometimes frustrating to program.

What about remapping Japanese keyboards

I'm curious to know if any of these tools can remap keys on a Japanese keyboard? We had to install a U.S. version of Windows 7 ultimate on a Japanese laptop and everything works fine except about 6 keys do not recognize their Japanese assignments. The English assignments are fine, its only when the user switches to Japanese that there is an issue.
