thank u so much for this good tutorial,i have downloaded the windows 7 7264 for x86,my problem is that now i have two operating systems:
1)XP Sp2
2)Linux Fedora

now my boot loader is GRUB and with that i select which of them start, the default is windows Xp, now i want to delete linux and just have windows xp and then install windows 7.
so i think i shoud first change bootloader and then install windows7,but i don't know how to do this this.can u plz help me?:p

another thing where can i see windows7 requirements, and the file system for installing it shoud be NTFS is it right?
at least how many GBs shoud i have for installing it?

tnx

I beleive what you are asking is you want dual boot with XP and Win7 and get rid of Linux?

Just boot from the Win7 ISO disc and select the linux partition as your install location, it will overwrite linux, on completing the install you boot and have two options XP or Win7, Win7 will be default but can be changed by typing MSCONFIG into the search bar and choosing the boot tab, just right click Win 7 and select as default, here you can also choose how long before it boots the default. Any issues with the boot loader after install can be resolved through booting the install disc and selecting the repair option.

Yes it should be NTFS, again the install disc will change your linux partition for you.
windows7 requirements can be found using a search engine and typing "windows7 requirements,"

I would suggest you get a copy of build 7600, it's improved a lot since 7264.

Use the install disc, (win7,)you will get a screen to select where to put the install, highlight the small partition and if you look down the screen you will see advance option choose this and you can now delete, format etc, when you have the required clear space just choose install, hope all goes well.

Why don't you do a triple boot? Just create a new partition and install W7 on that one.
W7 will see the other 2 installations after install.
I have W7, Ubuntu and XP running :)

Yes when you install 7 it loads the Windows Bootloader over any other bootloaders...So when you install 7 GRUB will be erased and the WinLoader will take over...along with adding XP automatically to the boot list as a bonus

Hi

sorry to bump this old thread but i have a problem similar to yours. I have windows vista, windows 7, and linux as a triple boot. I installed linux last so i get that GRUB loader whenever i boot. I was planning on deleting all my partitions and installing windows 7 fresh. Will this overwrite the bootloader and remove GRUB?

If 7 and ubutu are both gone them from within the 7 installation menu do a complete reformat of the hard drive. Make sure do delete all of the partitions.
