Solved Remove item from context menu

This is a very strange situation: The folder context menu shows multiple instances of VTSync, see screen grab. This is a legitimate program, but really has no place in the context menu. What is so frustrating is that I cannot remove it!

The item seems to get placed in the context menu when the program is installed. Earlier today, I uninstalled the program; removed all entries for it from the registry, then reinstalled the program. Prior to uninstalling, it appeared three times in the context menu, now it appears four times.

I also tried the programs 'Shell Extension View' and 'Shell Menu View', but I could find no reference to VTSync in either.

Can you please offer a suggestion for getting rid of these unwanted entries?

As I mentioned in my post, I did try that program and I saw no reference to these items when using it.

You could try AutoRuns, a tool from Microsoft TechNet

Autoruns for Windows

Be careful when using this though and only remove the items you need to. I would create a system restore point and possibly a system image before using it.

I'm not sure if it will help but I will show you how I remove entries from their.

Go to the control panel and then folder options and make your settings the same as the screenshot below.

This is the entry I will remove. Click on it and make a new document on the desktop, noticed the file extension.

Navigator to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and scroll down until you see the file extension type in this example .psd

Expand .psd and right click on ShellNew and click on Export this will backup the registry entry save it somewhere convenient and give it a name.

Again right click on ShellNew and click delete. Then click Yes in the dialog box.

Now it is gone.
