Solved Remove Unknown User From Network

Is TOM still visible? Can you ping it?

It would help if you could screenshot whole page.

Try shutting down/unplug printer and ping TOM. (I have no idea even if you can rename a printer like that, but doesn't hurt to check :))

I've gotten the MAC address, thanks to GokAy, but tying that address to a vendor using the link you provided is impossible. Not only did the page take FOREVER to load (easily 5 minutes), but once it did load I could only view the first page. Trying to page beyond that always gives me 1eee.org is not responding with a suggestion to recover the webpage.
That website does tests one's browser :-)
Please post the first 6 characters of the MAC address for TOM.

In post #9 I attached the entire page of the ping to TOM. Or are you referring to a screenshot of something else?

Can you still see it in the Network? and able to ping it if so. This is to make sure it is still online, nothing else.

Screenshot of Router Wireless MAC filter page, it would still help to check the DHCP client table (it may be in Management if not other places).

If they are running WPA2, then a password is mandatory.

Try the instruction in screenpost, rogue name change to Tom

Then you have a choice:

1) wait for a time when the device named TOM is on your network
(e.g. you get good ping returns vs. time outs)
block TOM's MAC from Wi-Fi
(your ISP can help you do this if you are unsure of the steps)
restart your router/modem
restart the computer that you are on
If the device named TOM is no longer in the list of devices on your network, then you can have some level of confidence that the device was coming in thru your Wi-Fi. If that is the case, then change the WPA2 key from a computer that is connected to the router modem via hard wire.

2) Change the WPA2 key and be done with it - for a while.
WPA2 keys can be broken.

I don't that this'll help.....

Nope, it won't :)

Every router has a different lingo even if some features are same. See my last post to add MAC to deny (or allow).

Sorry, I see now - post 10 - http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/381446-remove-unknown-user-network.html#post3148269

Do you wish to keep a Deny list or Allow list?
- With an Allow list only devices you add to the list can connect to the wireless, but will need constant administration as friends come and go (if they use your wireless).
- If you select Deny and enter TOM's MAC address, it should be stopped from wireless (if it is connecting wirelessly).
This is becoming frustrating....

Did not know that.... The TOM MAC address has been entered in the deny area of MAC Filtering. I can't really shut down the router at this time - my wife is using her iPad to chat with the grandkids. But I'll shut it all down later and will get back tomorrow with the results.

IF we had read it PROPERLY OOOPs

We have been reading this the wrong way round

The request is to JOIN TO Tom, he must have a network with a domain called Tom.

Scott's lappy is picking Tom up as he has network discovery running, its just like if you right click on your signal bars you see a list of available private networks to join.

Explorer is picking up domains as well.

HO hum.

As far as I know, the section under Network in the navigation pane of Windows (file) Explorer shows some of the devices that are on a network. These devices can be computers, tablets, phones... The Network section does not show users (re: posts #2 and #13). It does not show domains. It does not show other networks in the area.

I could be wrong. Where did you get the impression that the Network section shows domains?

Hi U N I,

What i meant is that any Wifi comp will pick-up all broadcasting signals in range, these can be seen by going
Network connections/settings >> connect to a network.
These signals can be either/or domain, in this case i assumed Tom was a domain because of the,
connect TO Tom's domain.... security prompt screenshot.

The only other way i know how to get to that screen is
Via System>Changesettings>Comptername>joinDomain>security login.

Im even more confused by the fact that according to his specs, W7 Home premium,
The domain option is not included in this version.

Come on :p

How many times did you ping a domain? And you can't see anything from another subnet in Network unless there is some service relaying that info (WINS perhaps or TCP/IP NetBIOS). Then there is https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc737661(v=ws.10).aspx but I can't go into detail there because I will go back to sleep
It should be just another machine, you can't join a domain like this and you don't need to join a domain to browse to a domain enabled computer.
Back to you ;)
