recently I ran Mamu's add icons to system batch file for mame icons. I wasn't satified with the results so I was going to do a system restore. Then I learned system restore was turned off "which I turn off when I defrag then turn back on when completed". Now I can't figuere out how to remove it. I'm not very good with cmd. or batch files so any help would be greatly appreciated

You just delete the batch file if you want to remove a batch file, there's no need whatsoever to go inside the registry.

This batch file changed the registry. I deleted the original one after executing it but the icons are still the same.

Then I learned system restore was turned off

I think he means he hasn't got any shadow copies.

I've tried everything I can think of cleared and rebuilt icon cache, used Ragnarok win7 orig iconpack, and ran sfc /scannow. Nothing has worked. Filestypeman shows .ico Type Name as Batfile and Description as Windows Batch File. I haven't found any system effects just within MAME itself so I guess I'll just deal with it as it is and chaulk it up as a learning experience. Thank everyone for trying to help and if I find a fix I'll make sure I post so someone else may benefit. Thanks again

It looks like it deletes the originals when it replaces them. A reinstall of Mame may well fix this.

That's the first thing I tried. You don't install it and it keeps settings in an .ini file. Deleted both exe and ini files ran ccleaner then deleted all references in registry still didn't work. Sfc says nothing wrong and the only visible effects is in MAME itself. I feel I've done all I can think of and it's not worth the risk of really creating a problem so I just let it be. Thanks all for trying to help.

OK, if there is an exe file, the images must reside in that. I don't know from MAME, so cannot say how it references images if it does not install. The images must come from somewhere, and an exe file is the likely source. A Guy

MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. MAME itself is a DOS program run from a command promp. There are a few variants that use a GUI like mameui, mameuifx, or MESS. It's a project to document and preserve arcade games. It's an open source project to teach about programming and hardware. The exe file is a stand along program that uses multiple input sources e.g. snashots, PCB's, history, source code, and mainly ROMS. Source code is freely shared for anyone to compile there own version which is greatly encouraged. Even someone who doesn't understand programming it's a great program because the effect is as close as you can get to playing REAL arcade games (which is thousands of games)

You'd want to find where the MAME32UI or M32UI icons reside. This appears to be a User Interface, you must have some sort of Graphical interface as you have changed icons. Where does the interface itself come from? A Guy

Here's a text of the directory structures from both versions I use. You run the batch file from within the icons folder but I accidentally ran it from my desktop and that's the problem.
