Solved Removing safeboot:minimal from bcdedit in dos

So I set windows to boot in safemode minimal in msconfig.exe so I could wipe my video card drivers. What I didn't know when doing this is that I had a windows update waiting to apply so when the computer restarts into safe mode it says it can't configure the windows updates and restarts and then does the same thing over again. Changing to start normally after hitting f8 doesn't do anything since I changed the option in msconfig.exe. So that leaves me with changing it back to normal in dos using bcdedit. How do I change back to booting normal in bcdedit? It's so confusing.

You might see if you may be able to do step 2 in Method Two, or Method Three, of the tutorial below to return to normal startup.

Another option might be to do a System Restore (via a System Repair disk) pre-dating your MSConfig change:

Boot from the win7 install DVD and enter Repair Computer, then go to command prompt.

Type bcdedit to see the options available.

Now type:

bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot

Restart, you should be able to boot into normal mode.

Sry for upping an old thread. But I have the same problem and I want to delete safeboot from bcdedit. But when I write "bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot" it gives me this error:

You might see if doing OPTION TWO in the tutorial below will allow you to no longer boot into Safe Mode afterwards.

If you look under the default identifier at the screenshot it says safeboot minimal.

Cant use option two, as my computer is stuck at the safeboot loading sequence. It reboots before entering safemode

You might see if doing a startup repair may be able to help and allow it to boot afterwards. You may need to run it 3 times.

Thank you. It should be in the order of the command below instead, but it should work in a elevated command prompt to remove Safeboot and allow a normal boot again.

bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot

Thanks again for helping me. But it is still not working. When i type:

bcdedit {default} /deletevalue safeboot

It says:
The specified command line is not valid.

If I write:

bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot {default}

It says:
The specified entry identifier is not valid.

If I write:

bcdedit /deletevalue safeboot {windows 7}

It says:

the delete command specified is not valid.

So close but not there yet.

So I accidentally tried uping the refresh rate on my monitor to 100hz and i got stuck with no output to my monitor. Booted into safe mode using the "bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal" cmd and i was able to successfully boot windows and remove nividia control panel. Now when i remove safe boot check mark under msconfig it goes from normal boot to selective? How do i get it back to normal boot, with out the safeboot check box filling back in?
