Hello Shawn some good news at last. I was preparing for the repair and ran ADWCleaner and then did a chkdsk /f /r as per your tutorial and the machine instantly started to get back to something approaching the usual speed it used to have.
I then tried MBAM which would not run so unistalled it and then reinstalled and the machine took a quantum leap into the fast lane so whether the new MBAM was clogging something I don't know but the chkdsk certainly was the turning point.

So thanks so much for your time and patience it was a worry for a while there as I was looking down the barrel at a clean install.

I just did a repair install on one of my computer because all the beta with Malwarebytes left some problems. SFC /SCANNOW would not repair.

Things I noticed.
I didn't see any place in the tutorial telling when to remove the Windows 7 DVD.

I could not install I.E. 11 until I activated Windows 7 again. I don't know if that is normal or not.
I could download it with Windows Updates and from Microsoft download but it would not install.

SFC /SCANNOW works properly now and finds no problems.
It took about 2 1/2 hours to do the clean install including all the Windows Updates (120).
It took another hour to figure out what it took to install I.E.11 and install it.

Got another computer to do that I made the same mistakes on fiddling with beta Malwarebytes. It will take a little while before I get in the mood again.

Now I thinks things are working properly including Malwarebytes.

Hey Jack,

Usually it's best to wait until the repair install has completely finished and you're logged in to Windows before removing the DVD/USB. I added a step to help clarify though.

I find that installing only the Windows Updates that are selected by default first works best, restart if prompted, and keep checking for and installing updates until no more are selected by default and no more left.

I've never tried installing updates without already being activated, but I suppose that would be normal as an incentive to activate or bust.

The reason I mentioned about removing the DVD is I have my boot check for USB and DVD before booting into Windows 7(C) partition.
My concern was when rebooting it would see the boot able DVD with Windows 7 and boot the DVD instead of (C) partition with the installed Windows 7.

I should of changed my boot order but I forgot but I did catch it in time.

I install updates 10 at a time and reboot whether Windows 7 request a reboot or not.
When done I check for Windows Updates 2 or 3 times about 30 minutes apart.

Activation went quick and smooth.

I have problem with my reg catalog after using DDU (Displau driver uninstaller), atleast i think that is the reason.
Will a rapair install solve the reg catalog?

Yuo can see some off my post on different site
Different bluescreen..think it is my AMD driver but what to do? - Windows 7 - Windows 7

I tried this step by step as shown and everytime i do it keeps telling me that the upgrade was not successful and restores my OS with all its defaults. Does anyone know the reason why?

It could have failed for a number of reasons. Check to see if anything in the red warning box at the top of the tutorial could be an applicable reason for now.

Thanks for the warm welcome
as far as i can see everything is in order. My laptop did not come with a Windows 7 Set up disk so I had to download the software from the internet. I got it from this website: Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River and downloaded the X17-58997.iso. I extracted it and followed all instructions but it always fails. Please help because this is my only option as for some reason HP Recovery won't let me reset to factory default.

In that case you may need to do a clean install instead.

Be sure to back up anything that you do not want to lose first. You can use the same ISO to do this with.

this hard drive i've currently got is a clone of my old one and i wanted to sort this out before adding anything onto it. Also do i have to burn it onto a DVD or USB because i've got non at the moment. I do however have it on an external hard drive. Would that work to?

I would recommend to create a bootable USB with the ISO file since it would be faster.

Hi again, thankfully it worked and now i'm restoring all my programs. Unfortunately this brought up a new problem. After some research i found to do this it would be best to keep the .NET Framework version 4. I'm going to upload the end part of installation logs. can you help me please?
