Just bought Lenovo 580 which cane with win 8. As laptop has no touch screen win 8 is problematic and I don't like it in any case so I installed win 7 pro 64 bit in dual boot configuration till I get win 7 working properly. Most things fine but the Broadcom wireless is not working. It worked under 8 and a Kubuntu flash drive. Normally fn + f5 turns radio on and off but it will not work. Trouble shooting indicates radio is off but device controller says driver is fine and the latest. Have any other Lenovo owners fixed the problem? Anyone have any suggestions? I have a usb wireless I could use but that defeats the purpose of a laptop. Lenovo techs helpful but as I changed the OS I would have to go to paid ($89) single incident software help

Really if a flash-drive run drive of Linux works then some how windows 7 should be able to do it.

Yes that was the first place I looked. However, a new broadcom part is being used, i.e. a BCM4313. See the following for more information InConcert® Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® Coexistence Interface for Single/Dual Antenna Designs - BCM4313 | Broadcom. At the present time. I don't think Lenovo has written a Windows 7 driver for the unit. I have been hunting for other drivers that might work. Note Dell uses the same broadcom part but it's Windows 7 driver refused to load. I'm going to keep looking for a driver but I might wind up replacing the wireless module with one they used in the G580 prior to the middle of last year when they switched to Windows 8. It's really a matter of cost as replacing the module would be very simple. Unless I or some other kind individual finds a driver that will work. I could always use a plug-in USB transceiver but that's the kind of Kluge I am trying to avoid.

Just wanted to add in some insight. Even if drivers were to be found for windows 7 they may still not fix your problem. Some companies like Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. have Whitelists implemented in their BIOS/EUFI. Meaning it may be up to their discretion on whether or not said WiFi chipset would even work under windows 7. Ultimately it may come down to needing a BIOS update.

Anyway to access these white lists and modify them? I did find a lenovo driver for windows 7 for the transcever but for a 3000 model and am in the process of downloading it. Maybe it will work. To much Cr+p for what should be simple. I could easily go into a win 8 rant but wont.

There is now way to modify the whitelist unless someone modified the bios.

Have you tried installing the Windows 8 driver under Windows 7? Give it a shot as I have tried that with my sound card and Ethernet, so it may work, but no guarantees.

Windows is fully updated. When I tried to do a regular instal of the win 8 drivers I got a "not for this system error" which stopped the install (how did you get them to install?). Broadcom has released an improved driver but the only site I found it on had the 32 bit edition. I will have to re-download the old 3000 driver from Lenovo as the first was corrupted.

So now I will try the 3000 driver again, see if Lenovo can help with the bios without their super expensive special help or at least tell me if I can switch wireless cards and to which.

Also thanks for the suggestions and post any thing else that might be helpful.

As I suspect you know I am not talking of the band but the nasty villains Dickens created in "David Copperfield"
